Hi Guys - any tips/pointers to try to resolve a recent 'low memory' issue on my Win Me partition? (The Win 2000 partition/OS works OK).

Some background on the machine.

P4, 1.7 Ghz, 768Mb Ram hardware. About 70% free resources when booted in normal mode.

Win Me partition is 5Gb, about 50% full.

Virtual memory is now assigned to a different partition (also FAT32) & has a max of 10Gb. Windows managing it.

I've trimmed down the start up items in msconfig to include only antivirus + 5 or 6 other essentials.

Scandisked & defragged it without errors.

Still LOW MEMORY!!!

Without reloading ME (the last resort as I've got IE6, WMP9 etc), is there anything else I've missed?

Yeah - see text in bold in my original post. Thanks anyway.

do you have vcache fix that limits it to 512MB ?

Yep - problem solved by removing 256Mb RAM.

Thanks

my advice: get rid of ME as soon as possible.

I'm coming around to that suggestion more & more !! :nuke:

I'm in the progress of moving my applications over to a 2000 partition on the same PC. Once done, I'll load XP over ME, then look to migrate everything over to XP (& reinstall the extra 256Mb of RAM).

Thanks to all for your help/suggestions.

ughh.. I've talked to people who have done that who had run into some serious problems.

ANd how are you going to move everything from your Windows ME partition (FAT32) to your Windows 2000 partition (NTFS)?

I don't think it's possible.

The Windows XP is the program you'll need to have the ability to read both file systems. That was one of the best things about it.
