Anyone know how to disable system alerts in WinXP? I am well aware that I have no virus protection installed, I don't care to be told every time I boot my computer.

Also, anyone know how to disable the "new software available" pop-ups? I don't want IE7, and I'm tired of seeing that every day as well.

thanks

For Windows, go to Start--->Run and type: services.msc

Scroll down to Security Center, right click on it, select properties, then stop the program and disable it.

For IE, click Tools---> Internet Options, then click the Advanced Tab, and under 'Browsing,' it should be the first entry that says "check for updates....blah blah." You know what to do here. :)

I wouldn't be that quick to disable security center!

To just disable the balloon tip-pop-ups (and keep the underlying services going), read this link:
