Hello Fellow Civ Fans,

In the past versions of Civ .... when you conquered a city which had the Hanging Gardens you would inherit this as your own. This does not apply to Civ Five does it?

I do see you do get to keep some of the buildings in the city which were already there unless destroyed in battle.

Any feed back in taking over cities and the pro and cons of razing or annexing when building an empire or gaining ground against the AI would be great.

Thanks

All the world wonders are preserved after you occupy a city. The normal buildings, as you said, are sometimes destroyed and sometimes not. It is pretty random as far as I know.

Personally I always puppet the cities that I occupy and only annex them if it is urgently required (for example if an AI attacks to the city and it has no units near it and I need to buy some unit in the city). I'd recommend city razing if the AI has built the cities in stupid locations (such as one tile islands).

Pretty sure if you capture a wonder it doesn't get raised and you benefit from its abilities, for example +10 food from the Hanging Gardens. At least I've never seen a wonder raised in any of my games (unless you raise the whole city).

If you capture a wonder that gives a free GP you won't get one as that only applies at the time of construction.

In addition to (World) Wonders being preserved, all cultural and defensive buildings are always gone, in my experience.

I most commonly see food/production/science related buildings left over, if any. Every once in awhile you capture a gem late game that is pretty much ready to annex and be productive, once the revolt ends which in cities like that is usually >10 turns.

Noticed something odd today regarding this. I had captured a couple cities 100+ turns ago and made them puppets. I was running short of :c5happy: so I annexed a few to rush a few courthouses.

Noticed that none of these very old cities had cultural buildings. Seems they're destroyed on annexing not (or as well as) capturing. Bug?
