I look forward to watching this series as well. Thank you for all the Let's Plays you do. Very entertaining and great commentary. Always good for some laughs (in a good way) - like when you call Alex a noob. You say what we are all thinking. Or when you say your city is "slacking" or the AI is "slacking". Very enjoyable.

Now for some specific commentary:

Maybe you know this, maybe not. All the Civs in this game went hostile/denounced because you backstabbed your "friends". You were allied with the group of 4 (Russia, India, Germany and France). Greece asked you to go to war with your friends. When you declared war not only did you get the DoW diplomatic hit but you also got the "backstab" modifier. It instantly paints a bullseye on you as untrustworthy and a "bully". Basically it means insta-hostile with all other Civs.

It makes no sense that Alex denounced you too since he asked you to go to war and you accepted. Did he not know you were making friendships with them? That is the stupid part of Civ 5. At minimum the game should have let you stay friends/allies with Alex but obviously the Civ developers overlooked this situation or just don't care. It is stupid that you "join forces" with someone yet they denounce you the next turn.

Diplomacy is messed up and basically the best thing to do is not make friends with people you plan on attacking. Or if you do make friends, wait for them to attack you. Best way to do that is settle a city in their face and take up lands they covet. Settling Shanghai where you did would likely have been enough to entice both Russia and Greece to attack you.

Then if they denounce/DoW you they take the diplomacy hit with the other Civs and you can play the "good guy" or the "victim" and then hopefully gain favours/relations with the other Civs (like the Huns or the Group of 2 etc.).
