Acken Challenges - #1 Carthage Immortal (6)

I retired, as Cathy killed everyone and nuked Morocco, dropping XCOM's on him around t260. This should have been winnable, but I just don't understand how my science sucks so bad when I am working all specialist slots and have some academies. I think Rationalism is going to be a must-have in this mod for later eras. I would have won if I put culture into Rationalism instead of filling out Order. Might replay for Freedom or Autocracy, and now that I know the map, I will probably settle the first 2 expos and make them produce settlers at pop 3, while delaying Iron Working and pumping out cheap warriors to upgrade later. That would open up mid game builds for me.
Rationalism is currently designed to be somewhat mandatory but as a competition to ideologies rather than medieval and classical trees.

I currently want players to mostly pick two or more pre ideology trees then bounce back and forth between their ideology and rationalism

One thing I noticed is that I could not steal any tech from anyone. I only stole Metallurgy from Harald when I was killing him, but Russian cities would require 600+ turns of stealing tech, and I rotated my level 3 spies in all of her cities. I can take screenshots when I get home. It was impossible to steal anything from the civ which had nearly every tech.

well dunno what are the changes to espionage but didnt notice anything here.

Instead of a screenshot please provide a game so that i can test fixes on it directly.
Which saves would you like? I autosave last 30 turns of my game, and I retired around t286 (Catherine should win SV in a few turns), so the earliest save would be from t256. I will do it when I get home.

Any where the time for stealing is abnormal
Well here are a bunch saves for different cities: about 160 or 55-60 turns to steal a tech. I can't find the 600 one. Pretty sure I moved that spy immediately.

I think you can also see that party leadership is showing 2 faith per city without giving it. Also, could you look at this screenshot? Cathy seems to not have party leadership (I don't see the yields), but some of her cities have 2 faith per turn, while others don't.

Interesting game. What I find more interesting is the variety of snowballs on the other continent in this thread. It's starting to seem like instead of always seeing the same AI's get ahead, you're seeing a lot of variability in things. The snowball on my continent was completely different than a couple other's in this thread, and I had to snowball my own continent because someone decided it was a good idea to try his luck while I dealt with the wireless devices.

That happens with the DCLs and CDGs maps as well. But maybe Acken’s mod exacerbates the phenomenon?

Maybe I noticed it less, because generally, lets say Poland on another continent is always going to be the runaway in those types of games. But in this one, it seems every permutation of civs getting annihilated by other civs seems to have happened in the ~20 people who have played it.

Ok honestly Moderator Action: <snip> this game. Rome has over 110k culture and throws nukes every turn. I have been pretty much at war with every civ at every stage of the game, and especially after I picked freedom and everyone else went order. The AI's did not even do anything: they just DoW'ed me, so I could not have any open borders/trade route bonuses but did not actually move units until endgame. I was also DoW'ed when I had top military score, so the IA's really just go to war for the sake of war. Rome just spams nuclear weapons ans xcoms, and there is nothing I could do. And again, ridiculous spy turns. This game was so cancerous I am not touching civ for at least a month.

Moderator Action: No matter how angry the game may make you, please watch your language when posting. Thanks.

Yes more runaways in the mod usually because of ai agressiveness. It often ends up one of them gets the upper hand. And also being a runaway is clearly a big deal that is a threat to the player as witnessed by some player in the thread.

Continents maps are particularly dangerous as you have less control over the other continent.

The aggressiveness is too arbitrary. For example, when I was number 1 in military, I still got DoW'ed, and not once. Why? Does it even make sense to build a big army, if that doesn't matter? How do I prevent every single AI from going to war at me and denouncing all the time? I was backstabbed by Morocco twice, and choosing a different ideology was literally a death sentence.

Also, I think I encountered a bug, but I do not have a save: Boudicca popped into my screen and offered open borders, but when I clicked "accept", she said "unacceptable. there is no way to make it work." Wat?

"Every single one" is a problem I'm working on. However Rome declaring seems to be working as intended considering he was done with his continent and on a conquest roll.

But if you are 1st in military why not take over your own continent ?
