Georgia has called its 2,000 troops home from Iraq to help in the fighting against Russia in the breakaway province of South Ossetia and asked the U.S. military to help transport them. The official says that the U.S. military has agreed to their request and “some flights have already begun.”
Shouldn't US troops be following right behind them?
I am not suggesting we dive right in and start offensive operations against Russia, but if we turn our backs on Georgia, how can other allies trust us in the future? We should send the 6th fleet into the Black Sea immediately and use our own airlift capability to get those Georgian troops home asap.
They've (Georgia) sent their sons and daughters into harms way with our own in Iraq. And now when they need our help, our President spends the last few days watching the Olympics from the stands?
What's next? Do we let the Russians bully the UK into giving over Northern Ireland?
Georgia had 2000 troops in Iraq ?

American Troops or heck NATO Troops should not be engaging Russian Troops in Georgie.
While it is sad, the tiny nation of Georgia is being bullied into Submission by mighting Russia, sending troops will just enraged a war. Somemore, Georgia, is an unimportant region to the US and much of Europe. Its protection is not needed for the NATO cannot see the benefits of protecting Georgia and only the consequence of doing so.
Georgia is an unimportant region to the US and much of Europe? You obviously don't understand US or Europe Polocies then
Georgia(the caucus regions) is where Russian and Western Influence meet, it is also where the only oil pipeline is in the region that Doesn't pass through Russia is
Not to mention Georgia has the 3rd largest force in Iraq, behind US and Britain
They are a key American Ally in the Caucus, as well as a key European Ally
During the NATO summit in Bucharest George W. Bush called for Georgia to be allowed to join the Membership Action Plan (MAP). The alliance decided not to offer Georgia a MAP due to opposition from several countries, led by Germany and France, who feared the decision would anger Russia
