Kyse oli vaan mortin kaapista, mutta eipä tuo vaivautunut suomea puhumaan vaan veteli everstille omalla lokaalillaan kuten koko inttiaikansa muutenkin. Btw, Stadin natiivi vai jostain maalta (Kehä I:n ulkopuolelta) sivistystä tuomaan tullut? Allekirjoittanut syntyi kyllä stadilaiseksi, mutta hiihteli Epsooseen jo ennenkuin se laskettiin kaupunkien joukkoon eli '71 eikä oikea Stadin slangi ehtinyt tarttua, mutta erotan sentään fönarin ja sporan toisistaan.
Inttiaikana Mikkelissä toimin osa-aikaisena Stadi-Savo simultaanitulkkina kun kaveri, joka kävi landella Tikkurilassa ei oiken ollut sujut kuopiolaisten maajussien käyttämien ilmaisujen kanssa, mutta pääsääntöisesti olen tottunut länsimurteisiin ja Loviisan sekamelskaan.

If you say that old Helsinki words don't have such a strict vowel harmony that could well be the case. Or maybe in some places people pronounce ä as a?

I've read comparisons between Karelian, Kven and 'standard' Finnish. I'm very used to realising intervocalic /d/ as /ð/, so I guess I must sound like someone with a weird mixture of accents.

Is it possible that people don't pronounce ä that differently from a unless it's followed or preceded by y or ö? I sense it in men's pronunciation especially.

Yes, people tend to confuse wasabi with avocado a lot here as well.
And, lo and behold! Both the vernacular languages have cursewords beginning with a P. I don't think it's a coincidence.
