Here's why Google translate won't be replacing translators in the near future. I've tried the same with entire songs and paragraphs and it really screws up.

Also, I've just found out that the word 'krapula' in Finnish sounds exactly like 'crápula' in Spanish and both have kindred meanings. Do you happen to know where either comes from?

Don't these two songs sound a bit alike? Especially at the beginning. One you should know, the other, I'd be surprised.

Back to linguistic issues, the key word in that last sentence is 'almost'. .

Vesa Matti-Loiri comes up now and then in my YouTube recommendations list (not as often as a video titled 'Underpants Clip from Boy Meets World', which goes to show for the mentality of the YouTube administrators. Not bad, he reminds me of Pate Mustajärvi for some reason.

English can be confusing of course. I was born speaking English and Spanish (or Spanish and English if you prefer ) and I'm also learning the Gaelic while my brain can cope with it… I'm studying to get my official interpreter/translator diploma in a few years.

Gaelic is a bit like Finnish, you have a whole sentence and by changing one single preposition you can wreak havoc on the poor reader.

If I could, I'd learn as many languages as possible. Finnish/Estonian/Hungarian/the rest of the Ugric languages always sound interesting, as well as the Nordic ones (sagas FTW! ale, wenching, fights, family feuds -what else do we need?), and many, many others… but how many can a man learn?

Clearly the finlandssvenskar are decent people who speak languages understandable by human beings instead of that which you posted… seriously, 2,253 different forms of one noun? In Gaelic you can have a handful but that's it!
How do people even learn that language?

Edit: In hindsight, now I know why 'persetta', perseseen' and 'persealasti' are all stupidly rendered by Google into 'ass'. One more reason why we interpreters shall not be defeated by the machines!

Why exactly does the non-Finnish world want to become Finnish? I'm not that into learning a language with 15 grammatical cases to begin with.
