In my most recent game completed and the one I started yesterday, I had all victory conditions off. This means it is totally dependent on score. I also extended this latest game 150 years to 2200.
I wouldn't mind seeing the trade advisor just handle the deal, then give me the choice of accepting or not. The deals you get from the AI could be governed by the prowess of your trade negotiator compared with another civs negotiator, similar to how diplomatic deal are dependent on the relative...
Here's an update about this: yesterday I discovered that I have had a bad spot in RAM for about 6 months, that may have been responsible for this crash if it can't be duplicated on other machines.
Whewhew! I won my the first random map game of Conquests!
Domination victory with percentages set at 35/35, this seems like the right level for a large map with 10 civs. It was a horse race down to the last 15 turns.

I use subs to escort surface ships and watch out for other subs, and use them for pickets like everyone else. Other than this, regular subs are probably best in wolf packs. Subs are relatively cheap and quick to build. Once in a game I had the Iriquois attacking with 4 battleship escorted...
Ok so what is the deal with palaces anyway? What causes my subjects to want to expand my palace? Does the size of my palace have any impact on anything?
Ok I'll admit it, sometimes I like to play like a meglomaniac and attempt to rule the world or destroy it trying. Sometimes though, like when I have a not-so-great starting position on an island, I like to keep playing as a small fish just to see what happens and how long I can stay alive, etc...
