Tom Chick's take on Civ 6

I agree. I'm perfectly ok with giving the AI lots of boost to make a competitive game, and things like cranking up the production, giving the AI and advantage in diplomacy or combat are ok with me. The problem with playing Civ V or imagine VI at Diety level is I think you pretty much are forced...

Tom Chick's take on Civ 6

Maybe I missed it in this long thread, but as someone who has been reading Tom's reviews and playing civ since Civ 1, I'm a little surprised that after 10 pages nobody actually posted his review criteria. It is an entirely subjective opinion on his part based on one simple criteria: did he...

    "Peaceful New World"

The game I won, diplomatic 1937, I was full era ahead of my rivals, 30+ turns away from space race, being able to buy space ship components helps. I also would have one have won a cultural victory in 50-80, although that would have required killing my neighbor France. In the two other games I...

    "Peaceful New World"

I think they should change the name of the game to SimCiv:Kumbya. In one completed game, and 7 games played through ~0 AD, I have yet to have the AI attack me. Of the 40s odd leader features how many of them didn't become famous because of their military prowess and/or expansionist tendencies...

Observations on a post-patch game (king)

I also use the Tradition, before pre patch, I sometimes would choose the wonder bonus in tradition, but often I used Liberty pre pach. Especially the +1 production since early hammers are so rare, and than later the +1 happiness per city. However after the patch the 50% growth in the Capital is...

What is the story with Railroads?

Anybody know why the Capital doesn't get a rail bonus even after the patch.? It seems to me that bug, not works as designed. I built ironworks in the Capital (even added an extra workshop to qualify) and no bonus argh.

A core set of balance changes

That is really an excellent list of suggestions. In general I'd like to see things scale over time. So for instance I'd like to see cultural city states go from 12-> 18 -> 24 in the industrial era. Military give better units something similar should have to other city states. Maritime should...

Bollywood achievement (India 3 cities cultural victory)

I just finished Bollywood on Emperor in 1967. It was actually a close game with Iroquois finishing the spaceship engine before I started on the Utopia project. I got Stonehedge but missed the Great Library and the Oracle. Yes defense was entertaining with Himeji Castle, tradition, and general...

An attempt at understanding diplomacy in civ V

You realize this is not true plenty of folks have won space and cultural victories and prince level and perhaps even higher without firing a shot. I listened to one podcast where the guy finished the space race in just under two hours and only build a few military. I am planning on playing my...

    Amazingly bad buildings?

I went and checked I have a total of 33 buildings and 5 wonders in my 6 cities by 1450. I am not sure that I'm going to get any more cities. I may annex Rome and Tokyo after I conquer them. :). By this stage in Civ IV virtually every core city would have a temple, library, granary, forge...

As a old player of CIV series for 15 years, I have to say CIV5 is the best

I don't know about the OP, but I've been playing Sid Meier games since F15 Strike Eagle in 1985. So by the time the Civ 1 game out I had play 10 of his games. I went back and found HellCat Ace...

    Amazingly bad buildings?

So every city ended up with every city how is that specializing city. Just because of the building order is different that seems strange. You and I must be playing different games cause right now every city as France is unique. I have a building city, it is the only city in France that has a...

As a old player of CIV series for 15 years, I have to say CIV5 is the best

I loved Civ IV, but I have no doubts that Civ V has the potential to be the best Civ ever by a long shot. I especially like how unlike Civ IV, where things like culture and health, and happiness were irrelevant for 90% of your cities 90% of the time, everything happiness, cultural, population...

    Amazingly bad buildings?

The problem isn't that building in Civ V are too bad but the buildings in Civ IV were too good. Take a forge 120 hammer I typically could build it my capital in 5 or 6 turns and it would pay for it self in 20 or so turns. I actually like most of you I would typical whip the darn thing. Oh and...

    Hard Population Cap

There are several UB that add +2 happiness Egypt,Persia maybe somebody else. I assume you counted the benefits of Freedom but that is limited by the number of specialist spots which I think is around a dozen or so.
