Metacritic - average player's rating. Civ4, COL, Civ5, BNW, BE

Very interesting! Didn't know such site existed. I guess my memory was a bit off. But still, certainly 6.7 was not an amazing score especially compared to press review score of 9.0.

Metacritic - average player's rating. Civ4, COL, Civ5, BNW, BE

I also remember Civ 5 user score hanging around 5~6 until G&K. People get disappointed, patches and expansions improve, complete the game. Civ game cycle, just as usual I guess.

    Immortal Ironworks beeline

I think this strategy is quite strong in clumped up situations even without production heavy start imo. Tried it as Oda in an Immortal game and those Shock 3 Samurais coming from Ironworks + Heroic Epic capital gave me the hump to push through my nearby rivals(Germany and Rome..:Dl). I...

    Civ V GOTY announced

Wow it reminds me of "You can't prove there's God but you can't prove there isn't God either!" kind of arguement. Well at least priests have holy books to back them up  You can't just go about and accuse people of something they didn't do without any evidence y'know. If you don't have any...

    Civ V GOTY announced

Yeah and those are a couple of patch's worth of additional contents wrapped up in an expansion. If you look at Civ 5 patches you can find rather large tweaks of tech trees, social policies, buildings, units, civ-traits, city-state benefits, AI, diplomacy, additional bonus resources, new...

    Civ V GOTY announced

Note how I only compared DLCs to Warlords and PTW, not BTS because BTS did change the game quite drastically. Warlords on the other hand merely added new civs/leaders, swapping of traits, and scenarios. It's no different than a bunch of civ DLCs bundled togather. If DLCs aren't expansions...

    Civ V GOTY announced

It isn't really a new paradigm. You HAD to buy all the expansions if you wanted full version of the game before, and after DLC. One might argue expansions generally add more stuffs on the table. At least for me, the added civs, scenarios, and map scripts added more flavour to the game than PTW...

What DLC is most worth it now that they're all 33% off on Steam?

If you like Civ 5 at all I recommend all the combo packs namely Inca&Spain and Denmark&Explorer. If you want a vastly different playstyle suited for island maps I'd go for polynesia. If you hate leaving out only 1 civ, grab Babylon. I think 5 additional civs, 3 scenarios and extra map scripts...

    Civ Elimination-Who will win?

    America:1 Arabia:12 Aztec:11 China:8 Egypt:5 England:8 France:10 Greece:11 India:11 Iroquois:10 Japan:13 Ottomans:6 Persia:11 Rome:10 Russia:9 Siam:12 Songhai:10 Woops my mistake. Didn't include -2 on Ottoman and +1 on India by Kevin

can you explain me what's the point of hydro plants?

It would be better built on already production heavy cities so that it can benefit more from those extra +% production buildings. Or alternatively it can be purchased on population/gold heavy riverside cities to jump start its production.

I take my gold with me... to my grave

No one told you to "go back to civ 4" or anything.. I think what he meant is that a game can be fun and challenging even with a little bit of AI flaws. Like bryanw1995 pointed out at Immortal AI seems to capitalize its gold advantage more so you should check it out if you want more challenge...

    i don't like kreposts

I really like it. Early kreposts + heroic epic works quite well with those extra hammers from strategic resources. Can expand borders much more quickly as if my cities were cultural focussed while warmongering. After fully expanding borders I'd just sell them if it's not placed in a production...

Is the 'Explorer's Map Pack' worth it?

I like continents plus. It feels like fractal + continents both of which are my favorites. Some people don't like archipelago style CS however. I do like it though in that they don't get in the way while a few CS laid out in continent still play critical role.

Is there any way to see foreign units promotions?

Thx for the info. It would save a lot of time especially when using bombers.

    High level cheap shot

I'd say those examples are part of 'Battle.net 2.0 interface' and can be referred to as UI issues. Also even in SC2 there are few standard cookie cutter openings such as how you almost always go early 2 hatchery as zerg, almost always 4 gate in PvP etc. Also scouting in SC2 is normally only...

    Germany: underpowered or good

You are right. It might have been my mistake to get an early archer and go for brute hunting with 1 city. Might have got better result if I just teched up and used brutes as Longswords. Still, 25% chance seems too unreliable to me.

    Dissapointing victory screen

I totaly agree. The "winner is you" ending was my biggest disappointment. Thankfully I can at least see replay using a program made by dannythefool.

    Germany: underpowered or good

I think their UA is too unreliable at higher difficulty. I tried to take as many camps as possible to capitalize brutes but unfortunately got none out of 4 camps then got swarmed by AI. If I only had a couple brutes with me I would'v been fine. Also I found German UUs lack synergy with each...

    Is Honor worth it?

You can think of Discipline as a GG upgrade or 1 flanking offset. I found it quite noticeable in my war heavy games. It has a more long term effect than early liberty/tradition traits imo.
