The sad state of civ4 play outside of these forums

I've been playing Civ 4 for years, tried Civ 5 for one, just went back to Civ 4. I only just starting winning on Prince ( no challegne really: Darius, Standard Continents, Marathan speed, conquered my whole continent with Immortals and built Great Wall by 1500 BC, unintentional Domination...

    Final Frontier

So am I the only one whose OCD is triggered by the round map in Final Frontier? Shouldn't it be flat??? For reals, I still think Final Frontier is still fully enjoyable, but I think I could enjoy it even more if I could make the map flat. Is there a way??

    Defensive Pacts

What are your experiences with defensive pacts? Do they directly add to the deterrence power of my own military strength? Are they reliable? Or will I just end up getting back stabbed when I approach a victory condition?

    Capitulation Question

Whoa how do I direct their research?

    Capitulation Question

Quick question, same game I discussed in Defying Apostolic Resolutions (huge hemisphere, 18 civ, marathon). I've managed to have all Civs in my hemisphere capitulate to me, around 1820 AD. This means they can NEVER become free states, again, right? Even if they somehow manage to regain their...

    Defying Apostolic Resolutions

Be grateful to Saint Gilgamesh, he has handed you victory on a plate! I could do that, but I've just never believed in the AP Victory. Maybe it would be quick sure victory on a higher difficulty. But I should have plenty of time to win another way.

    Defying Apostolic Resolutions

Thanks all for clarifying that changing my state religion wouldn't help. Joao is tiny, I've already given Sitting Bill a good thrashing, Churchill pretty chummy with the GPT and smallish borders, and Wang Kong has no border with me. I think I'll be safe enough to finish out my campaign. Even...

    Defying Apostolic Resolutions

Playing on a Huge 18 Civ Hemisphere Marathon map. Everyone on the continent ( 8 total ) is Hindu. I'm conquering Gilgamesh with 3 cities left around 1100 - 1200 AD. His last ditch effort to save himself is to use a Great Engineer to build the Apostolic Palace and put in a resolution to stop...

    Unfriend Me Already

Right. So now I've changed my plan back to waiting for my DoF with Dido to expire and going on on expedition to the other continent to keep the Russians in check...

    Unfriend Me Already

Ok, now this is really kind of strange...Dido has trounced Haile, and I plan on liberating a number of his cities from her. I also no longer plan on waiting for my Friendship with Dido to expire (I just entered the Industrial ahead of everyone else, and would like get the msot out of my...

    Unfriend Me Already

Exactly - so maybe a good mechanic would be for Dof's to be cancelled, without penatly, if one of your Friends declares war on another one?

    Unfriend Me Already

No, I'm not trying to suggest that there should be an option to simply end a DoF, short of making a Denouncement, as a way a preserving accountability. However, I really, REALLY don't want to be friends with Haile any more, but I seem to be waiting a VERY long time for our Friendship to...

    Where'd you get the coconuts?

Surely I'm not the only one to wonder why come there are so many elephant units that do not require ivory? Or calvary units that don't require horses? Shouldn't I be able to strategically target these strategic resources, denying them to the Civs who love them the most? Imagine how different...

    Diplomacy makes no sense! (G&K)

I'll admit that when I first starting playing Civ 5 I would have agreed the diplomacy seemed to make no sense. And then I remembered that this game is supposed to be a simulation of what has happened during the history of human civilization on planet Earth, a planet inhabited by many a rude...

What do you name your Custom Religion?

Most recently, "Pythagarism" with the Star of David Sign, which was as close to a Pentagram as I could get, as the Greeks, and "Faythe" with the Celts before that.

    Question on Divine Inspiration

Why does the effect of the Divine Inspiration Belief (+2 Faith per Wonder) not apply to the National Wonders? At the very least, IMO, it makes sense for a Civilization which has adopted Piety to be exempt from this apparent "separation of church and state."

Petra on Floodplains and Dead Spies

As we're on the topic of changing terrain, does anyone remember the effect of "global warming," last seen in Civilization II? Why is that?

How does an AI from another continent know I'm a warmonger?

I've asked myself this question many times, and I must say that at first I would have agreed with you. But then I realized that while it might seem plausible to keep another player in the dark about your early transgressions against another Civ, it is also true that the Ottomans didn't fool...
