There wasn't even enough soldiers left alive to set up efficient sentries last night.
Unsurprisingly, this weakness was painfully exploited.
People thought they made out a maniacal cackle from the now dwindling crowd of onlookers, but the perpetrator could not be singled out.

So many deaths. So many comrades lost in this fight.
But. It was about to all be made worth it.
You just had to take care of the last few loose ends.
This, was to be your final trial.
He was the last obstacle.
This, was your final mission.
A harsh, yet strangly charismatic voice called out.
"Excellent work.
Now none can stand in our way."
Stunned, the few remaining Red Army soldiers turned their guns on the man.
It was Catharsis.
"Don't waste your time." he advised, pityingly, as they shouldered their rifles.
Before they knew what was happening, one fell, clutching at the sudden bowie knife wound across his neck. They hadn't even seen him throw it.
With a slump, the unfortunate soldier fell, dead.
The other froze for a second, horrified, before lowering his gun.
"G-Good work, b-Boss!"
"Yes..
Beating The Boss's last disciple.. And taking Metal Gear..
I'd say we've done quite well here. Soon, our nation of soldiers will be a reality.."
"Y-Yeah! We sure did, boss!"
"We? Oh, no, I meant the FOX unit. Not you.."
"b-But Boss!"
"I'm sorry. We can't allow any liabilities in the unit.."
With a cry of horror, the rebel tried to raise his rifle.
Catharsis made no attempt to stop him.
Yet he felt a chill wash over him.
Before he knew it, the unfortunate soldier was frozen solid.
A grating voice spoke out, with all the force of winter frost:
"Boss.. San Heironymo is ours."
"Good, Python. Prepare the Metal Gear for launch. We break the Philosophers once and for all."
