Ah, yes, but if people are wanting to lynch you today, then they will want to lynch you tomorrow. If you weasel your way out of a lynch by clever voting, then you will probably die tomorrow. Also: you've probably just lynched another vanilla townie. Congratulations, you've just distracted the town for two whole phases.
Also, dying for a vanilla townie is not the end of the world. For most Scum roles it is. As there are usually only 2-3 Mafiosos in a small game, it is a much bigger concern for a Mafioso to survive than it is of a town team of >15.
