The continuous demonstrations and protests that have now become synonymous with the Republican Governments crumbling support have suddenly been relieved by the return of the Spanish ambassadors from Australia. A daring plot hatched and enacted by a single hero of the Republic went on to save them despite the odds.

"Tell me Héctor," said the man, partially shrouded by darkness across the table, "What happened when you left the military?"

In the dim lamplight it was still clear to see the man opposite him; slim, young and handsome Héctor looked like he could have been quite dashing, had he washed in the past few weeks. His clothes were dirty and stained, his face was unshaven and his hair in a mess. But more disturbing than any of that a maniacal grin still stood on his face yet his eyes remained ungleaming and dull - as if life's luster had left him. And maybe it had, ever since the massacres at Ceuta he hadn't been the same, he's been distant volatile and left the military. "Well sir," he responded with an aloof air "Upon the reorganisation of Los Leóns del Rif into the 4th Republican Rifles I decided to leave."

"Was it for political reasons?" The other man interjected.

Héctor gave a wistful smile "No sir, I do not hate the Republican cause and would happily have fought for a unified Spain"

"Then why did you leave?"

"The things I saw... The horrors I faced" Héctor's tone now turned sour - not the bitter hatred of the anti-French protesters but a deeper air of disturbedness. "I was there at the walls of Ceuta, me and Don Torcuato stood side by side at the walls, I was young - scared - and the things that I saw them doing to our people was... was..." He trailed off.

"Horrific?"

"Yes, I just couldn't live with that in my mind. It was more than the horror of seeing it, but the sudden realisation of what man is capable of, the atrocities we can commit even here in Europe. I thought we were better than this, I thought we were beyond savages, but I was wrong..."

The shadowed man, nodded briefly and quickly moved on, not wanting to dwell on this topic, "So, what made you decide to go off on some half planned trek to Australia?"

"I had nothing to lose." Héctor carried on, back to his unfeeling tone of before "I didn't want to believe in humanity anymore, I don't even know. I just wanted to do something exciting before... Well, if I died."

Another figure in the shadows then spoke up, in an accented and commanding voice "What you did was reckless Mr Martinez, it was stupid and irrational." He stepped into the light "But I want to know just how you did it, how one man could rescue 4 diplomats from a hostile nation in complete lockdown."

Héctor smiled, and leaned forward to get as close to the Hungarian as possible "It is a... Riveting tale."

Colonel Robert Capa raised an eyebrow, "I can't wait."

Following recent world events the Reformed Kingdom of Prussia has grown larger and more powerful and we feel that Prussia doesn't suit us anymore and have decided to become The German Empire! Long Live the Axis

(note: the Republican League still exists, the RL was never supposed to be a military alliance, it is more along the lines of the EU or the UN consisting of only republics)

Recently the Axis of Nations has decided to plan to reach the moon and in that light of excitement one of Germany's top scientists has come forward to help with the project Wernher Von Braun and his team of Rocket Scientists Walter Haeussermann, Dieter Grau, Oswald Lange, Warner Kuers, William Mrazek, and Erich W. Neubert! They have come forward to help the Axis of Nations reach the moon the help they are going to bring us is immense we hope that we will soon reach the moon!

Luigi Einaudi was with his advisers in the Quirinal Palace discussing the state and aftermath of the war with Occitania.

"I have failed, I have failed the Roman people, and we lost disgracefully, I don't think that I should lead our people any longer, I made a foolish mistake, and Roman lives and freedoms were lost, think of all those Romans under Occitanian dominion now. I should resign my position." Exclaimed Luigi

"My Consul, you cannot just resign, especially after this horrible defeat, the Roman people need a strong leader like yourself to bring the nation back on its feat." said one of the Advisers

"The only thing my rule has done is bring instability to the Republic, we have lost a war, our people are questioning the very idea of Rome. I cannot allow this to continue." stated Luigi


The door to the meeting hall opened quickly, a messenger ran in. "My Consul, Pope Pius XII is dead."

"The Pope is dead, my foolish actions have caused him distress, and now he is dead." Luigi said despairingly

"You get this nonsense out of your head, you are Consul Luigi Einaudi, you reformed the Republic, you brought Carthage back into Republican Hands..."

"I DECLARED WAR ON THE OCCITANIANS! I SENT COUNTLESS ROMANS TO THEIR DEATHS, AND I HAVE LEFT MANY MORE TO BE SUBJUGATED BY THEM! I will not have it any longer, as of next morning I will no longer be the Consul of the Roman Republic." with that Luigi stormed out of the meeting office and went to his private study.

Luigi poured himself a glass of his finest Roman wine, he needed something to help take his mind off these last few hours.

"Rough couple of days huh?" Said Giovanni Messe who just walked in.

"Ah my friend Giovanni, you don't know how happy I am to see you, I am sorry for what I put you and your men through, I thought we could easily win the war, I was wrong, and countless Roman lives have been lost because of it. I am sorry."

"Luigi mistakes happen to everyone, I understand, but please do not beat yourself up over this, wars happen, nations lose, you did the right thing finding peace before more men were lost."

"Well, I'm happy you still like me, but the people of Rome..."

"Don't worry about it, trust me everything is going to be fine."

"Well then, ok, well would you like a glass of wine?"

"Certainly."

As Luigi turned to poor another glass of wine Giovanni pulled out his pistol, and shot Luigi right through the temple.

Back in the meeting room a soft crack was heard. Giovanni came running into the room a few minutes later exclaiming, "The Consul is dead..."

and with that his troops entered the meeting room holding the advisers hostage.

On the other side of Rome his men had just entered the Senate Building, brandishing their weapons, threatening to shoot anyone who didn't comply

The War with Occitania is Over!
Earlier this week peace discussions took place between Consul Luigi and Emperor Jules I of the Occitan Empire, territories have changed hands, and a Rome payed a large amount of reparations, however Rome, Carthage, and Italy have been secured for the Republic.

Consul Luigi is dead
Late last night Consul Luigi Einaudi committed suicide in his personal study. While details on this event are sketchy we can assume he did this act because of grief, shame, and depression from the war.

Pope Pius XII is dead
Last night Pope Pius XII died of grief and depression due to the war and loss of catholic lives. The cardinals will be electing a new pope in these upcoming weeks.

Giovanni Messe declares himself Caesar
Former Emperor Giovanni Messe has decided in the best interest of the Republic, to assume the title Caesar, he has given himself the power of the Consul and has destroyed that position in government, for unknown reasons the senate has not objected and has allowed this resolution to pass. In his address to the people Caesar Messe stated that "Rome will continue to be strong, and that a new age has begun."

South Africa Accedes to the Republican League

The Theocratic Republic of South Africa has become a member of the Republican League as of the last hour. South Africa noticed its close ally the C.U.S.S. had embraced membership, and so given an invitation, was quick to accept as well.

South Africa notes however that its membership is for purposes of diplomacy, and goodwill. Any military considerations are currently not applicable; South Africa’s sole defensive obligation as of the current moment is to the C.U.S.S. Should any sensitive information pertaining to armed force be discussed among League members, South Africa shall remain honorable and avoid disclosure; South Africa reserves the right to reserve its military to purposes of itself and the C.U.S.S.' defense, however.

South Africa thus assures the nations of the Axis powers that its ascension to membership in the League does not beget any hostility or enmity with said powers. While South Africa is sympathetic to the republican and democratic models, it is also of the opinion that peoples must forge their own destiny: whether the most open of democracies or most bloody of dictatorships, the people of a nation must exercise their own God-given reason and free will to decide their model of governance.

If the people of a non-democratic regime do not take it upon themselves to show discontent, they have given their consent to being ruled in such a manner; as such, South Africa respects the ideals of self-determination and considers any government, regardless of form, that has the faith of its people to ultimately be the most legitimate. We swear off the use of military, economic, or cultural imperialism by principle; let every nation decide for itself what the best economic and political models for its purposes are.

The Lord merely prescribes that humans be compassionate with one another. He does not prescribe a political model best fit for this purpose. Amen.

The Imperial Republic of Rome would wish to remind the world that the Republican league is a political organization of diplomatic cooperation (OOC: think EU or UN), while the Axis is a true Military Alliance. The Imperial Republic of Rome is a part of both.

The C.U.S.S feels the imperialists forces of Rome are enemies of democracy and as such should be kicked of the Republican League. (OOC: The EU requires its members to be a (representative) democracy...). Since Rome holds the key into the meeting halls of the Republican League however we would request either leave or that the members of the Republican League apply to join the Freetown Pact, which till a solution to imperialism is shorted will pose as a alliance of diversity against authoritarianism.

The Empire Joins the Entente

CHICAGO – Emperor Joseph I announced recently that the Empire of Chicago would be joining the alliance bloc known as the Triple Entente. Comprised of the United Kingdom, the Occitanian Empire, and the Holy Russian Empire, the Entente is considered to be the main supporter of conservative forces in Europe. The move was praised by several members of the High Council, who called it “a step forwards in preserving this great nation.”

The Empire’s entry into the Entente has raised some concerns among the more liberal elements of the Empire, such as the League of Free Cities. In addition to being pulled into costly oversees wars, some members of the League have expressed worry that the Empire may be turning towards a more radical path. The Emperor addressed these concerns, stating that “The Empire’s inclusion into the Entente does not in any way indicate a shift in its internal policy. The pact is one of a defensive nature; the Empire shall remain steadfast in its adherence to the terms of all treaties that it has signed.”


Reconstruction in the East

HARRISBURG – While the recent military victories in the East have brought glory and wealth to the Empire, they have also brought a fair deal of issues. Due to the chaos left behind in the wake of the Revolution, many of those living in the East are without homes, services, or occupations, forcing many to turn to illicit or barbaric means of survival. Under the recommendation of several Governor-Generals, the Emperor has approved the beginning of a large scale restoration of the Eastern infrastructure. Currently in the planning phase, this restoration effort aims to rebuild and repair the roads, railways, communication lines, and civil services to many of the new Imperial territories. In addition, the wide scale consolidation, restructuring, and expansion of the local farming, mining, and manufacturing industries are being planned in conjunction with the restoration. Analysts believe that the project will cost tens of millions of dollars, but that the benefits would far outweigh the costs.

NEW ORLEANS – In a move similar to the reconstruction in the East, the Emperor has announced a large scale restoration to the historic city of New Orleans. Long abandoned to the elements (both natural and criminal) the city had suffered before Imperial liberation, being battered by hurricanes, flooding, and pirate raids. Now, under Imperial domain, plans are being made to bring the Crescent City to even greater heights then its Pre-Revolution state.

The restoration of New Orleans is of great importance to the Empire. Located near the mouth of the Mississippi River, New Orleans is the major port of the Empire, acting as the gateway and shield to the heart of the Empire. Since its liberation at the hands of the 1st Army, the city has seen an increase in traffic, as ships move up and down the Mississippi to carry goods to St Louis, and from there, the rest of the Empire. As such, the Emperor has decreed that New Orleans be remade into a glorious visage of the Empire, as it will be the first thing many visitors to the Empire will see.


New States Admitted into Empire

CHICAGO – With the recent military campaigns and economic prosperity, many of the Empire’s core regions have seen increased stability, despite trouble looming near the territories. As a result, the Emperor has announced that he will be admitting 5 new states into the Empire, bringing the total number of states up to 9. The states of Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio will now enjoy the benefits and liberties that statehood will provide. Those living within the new states shall also receive Imperial citizenship, along with all its rights and responsibilities. Celebrations were held in the various state capitals upon receiving the news from Chicago.

Welsh People's Republic​

The Welsh People's Republic was one of the many governments the revolutionary forces attempted to establish in the United Kingdom. The oppressive and short-lived one-party proletarian dictatorship made many false claims of "seeking the betterment of all Welsh people and the freedom of the nation of Wales." However, within a year the phrase "All Welsh are Equal" turned from freedom for the Welsh to a slogan for the mass conscription of the Welsh people. Many people hearing the false slogan of the People's Republic crossed the border in hopes of a better life, but instead, most of them were handed a rifle and told to head back out and fight. Some of these conscripts were as young as twelve, and as old as sixty. The people who refused to fight were either shot, or imprisoned by the Welsh government.

The Flag of the Welsh People's Republic​

For the most part the People's Republic did not see combat through the opening phase of the civil war. It tried to break off from the main revolutionary force and used its army to guard and pacify its lands. This included, but was not limited to, shooting suspected Royalist spies and supporters without a trial, torture and execution of captured royalist officials, and the destruction of many places associated with the Royal Family and the previous government. These acts of terror were not limited to the common Welsh people. Throughout 1949 and 1950 the Welsh Revolutionary Party carried out many short and public trials against its own members. Almost always convicted of treason, every single one of these people were found guilty after a ten minute trial, escorted to an empty room behind the courtroom, and given a bullet to the back of the head. Royalist Officials frequently compared this to Stalin's Great Purge, which helped to reduce the number of people betraying the government and fleeing to Wales.

Finally, in March of 1956, the Military Council of the United Kingdom announced the start of Operation Edward I against the Welsh People's Republic. This operation, led by General Thomas Landon, was to "crush the oppressive Welsh government and bring order to the nation of Wales." British submarines filled the Irish Sea to disrupt the shipping of supplies to the People's Republic from Ireland. Along with this, Welsh ports were bombed day and night by the Royal Air Force. Cardiff, the Welsh Capital, was also bombed throughout this operation until it was taken by Royalist forces in February of 1958. The first phase of this operation was a push along south Wales to isolate Cardiff from the rest of Wales. The Welsh government, now separated from the remaining Welsh army, starting conscripting every man, woman, and child to defend it. This lead to a bloody battle for the Welsh capital, which earned 560,000 causalities. As the city was falling, the Welsh President, Awstin Jernigan, attempted to escape on a fishing boat to Ireland, along with several of his followers. However, he was captured by the Royal Navy and brought to London, where he was publicly executed.

Royalist troops celebrate the victory over Wales​

Without the leadership from Cardiff, the rest of the Welsh Revolutionary Army fell quickly to the Royalist Army. On October 18th, 1958, the remaining Welsh leaders surrendered to the Royalists, ending the war for Wales. This was not the end of problems in Wales, however. Until July of 1959 it remained under military occupation. During this time the country suffered a great influx of criminal activity, mostly conducted by Welsh nationalists who viewed the Royalists as enemies to the country of Wales. This was further increased when the Cardiff Act was put into place. In it, the Military Council of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland officially dissolved the nation, country, and state of Wales. It was to be considered an integral part of the English nation and the people of Wales were to be considered English. Along with this, all forms of local government in Wales were dissolved. Welsh nationalists gathered in Cardiff to protest this Act in November 19th, 1959. Their cries for "Wales for the Welsh" attracted a large crowd. However, hours after the start of this demonstration, British forces opened fire on the traitors, killing 45, wounding many more.
