Colonialist Legacies: Histories of the New World | Colonial + Pre-Colonial civs

How about:

One Eternal Vietnam
Trade routes to other civilizations gives +5 boost to defensive strength. Half of a cities defensive strength is added to culture output. Melee and non-ranged gunpowder units are invisible in Vietnamese forests and jungles.

My issue with this is that, with the synergy, you're guaranteed to completely eclipse Morocco's UA culture bonus.

I'm at work - but I'd love people to test it out for me! I'd love to see some HQ screenshots. Try to break it and give some feedback too.

I certainly know the first thing that I'll be doing when I get home :)

EDIT:

Some feedback:

I love it so far, I just think that the beard needs fixing since it's at various points - very pointy. His beard seems to stick to his bow tie after the initial introduction and is somewhat pointy there.

His hair is fantastic though. There are also the slight issues of the line on the beard (but that just may be due to the lighting) and the fact that the beard doesn't blend with the skin too well around the cheekbones.

The war animation is awesome though. His eyes do look quite red (which makes him look a bit like he's been on the wacky tobaccy) however. The beard also clips with the chest at this point. The eyebrows also assume it's final form here as it morphs into a god-tier catepillar as well (so the might need to be separated a bit ;)).

So, TP, is the DoM speech okay? I only ask because you didn't comment on it at the time and I fear it may have been drowned out by the others. Reposting a slightly edited version of it below:-

Trung Sisters's Dawn of (Wo)Man Speech said:
Let all the peoples of Dai Viet bow unto their saviours, Trung Trac and Trung Nhi! Though your origins were comparatively humble, as the daughters of a minor prefect under the Chinese, you were schooled in the arts of warfare and in the history of your people. When the Han invaders overstepped their bounds, inflicting great cruelties upon the people of your lands and murdering Trac's beloved husband, you rose with the rage of the dragon and your countrymen rose with you, casting out the usurpers and establishing a Vietnamese queen to rule over your people. For the next three years, the Chinese broke upon you like water upon stones, until at last you were defeated and the Han ruled once more, though it took an army of a hundred thousand men to slay two women.

O mightiest of sisters, you have more enemies than China now; you face a host of barbarians, eager to cast down the cities of a proud nation and place its people under the yoke of oppression once again. Will you rise for one last time and fight for the freedom of Vietnam? Will you make the kings of your foes fall prostrate before the sister-queens? Can you build a Civilisation that will stand the test of time?

Also, here's my attempt at unique messages for Dombo the Flying Zimbabwean and Simba (whose preferred AI religion should be Judaism, because then he can have iron like a lion in Zion):-

Changamire Dombo said:
Initial Greeting: Hm. Another ragbag of foreigners makes their presence known. I am Changamire Dombo. Marvel at my riches while you can.
DoW: I tolerate your presence in my lands no longer! Your forces shall break upon my walls and your nation of thieving dogs rightly punished!
When backstabbed by you: Despicable foreign dog! I knew you for a thief the moment I saw you! Guards! GUARDS!
Defeated: I charge you with this, conqueror: protect my people. That was all I ever sought to do.

Simba said:
Initial Greeting: Welcome, welcome! I am Simba of the Pridelands, and I'm the mane event around here. Most other places, too!
DoW: We've tried everything else, but I guess there's only one option left. We're prepared. Are you?
Defeated: F... f-father? Is that you? I'm coming home, father, I'm coming home again...

Hopefully those are acceptable. =]

Awesome, love Dombo's! Already have Simbas. I might wait for other civs to cool down first before we release Simba though.

I love the DoM. Might need to see how long it is though when spoken (don't really want it over 1:10).

Yeah, the previous one was a bit on the long side. This version is 1:05 according to my stopwatch, so hopefully it's a bit better. =]

Don't know if you've got any of these yet, but here's some messages for the Trungs:-

The Trung Sisters's Unique Messages said:
Initial Greeting: Hail, great leader, and look upon two leaders who are so much more. Tell us what you have to offer Vietnam.
DoW: You dare threaten the people of Vietnam? Come, sister, let us teach these vicious brutes some manners.
Unique DoW (when playing as China): Oh yes, because that went so well the last time. And the time before that. And the time before that...
Defeat: Our walls crumble, our fields burn... to the river, my dearest sister. And to you I say this: no rule is eternal. One day we shall rise again.

Hopefully those are okay. I've got no idea if the specific DoW for when you're playing as China will work, but it'd certainly be nice to have one, given the Trungs's history with Chinese aggression. =]

But... I have also created Diplomatic Responses... Many of them... Oh well. TPangolin will choose The Best Quality Features no matter who created them ;)

Was this Mexico ever made compatible with Leugi's Mexico? I enabled both once and saw in the civ select screen that this Mexico was rendered TXT_KEY_BLAHBLAHBLAH

It's not compatible atm, but I guess we can aim for a fix in the footure.

I'd also like a status report on the Trung Sisters (what's done, what's not). Interested in things like LUA, XML, DDS's etc.

I'll check out some music later on - I just want to focus on Vietnam before heading into Zimbabwe territory.

Pridelands should be released soon and after Neirai has helped me packaged that I really want to hunker down and get the Anish done!

I really like the ideal of TPangolin about VietNam, but if we can tweak more of this, it perfect.

Vietnam (Trung Sisters)
Start Bias: Jungle
Colours: Crimson/Jade
UA: One Eternal Vietnam - Each outgoing Trade Route connecting with another civilization in the empire adds +5 :c5strength: Defensive Strength to all cities. :c5trade: City Connections to the :c5capital: Capital provide point towards Great Generals. If Great General garrisoned on city, boost :c5production: and :c5science: of this city for 10%, 20% for :c5capital:
UB: Water Puppet Theater (replaces Amphitheater) - Has one slot for a Great Work of Musican. +5% :c5culture: Culture and +5% :c5food: Food in this city for each Social Policy adopted in the Honor Tree.
UU: Vietcong (replaces Infantry) - Gains invisibility in jungles and +25% :c5strength: when attacking enemy with different ideology.

Why ?

- If we go pure Honor combining with UA, we cant deny that VietNam will have a lot of Great General. But as a defensiveness civ, why did we need a lot of GG, plus it didnt have any special bonus like Mongolia or China, so i thought the concept is really nice but it didnt sync with VietNam gameplay. This civ must archive some goals in order to sacrifice for defensiveness gameplay. That why i coming with this ideals. Hope you guy enjoy it.

- About second changed, i thought musican is fitted than writing.

- I really like the ideal bonus attack from different ideology(very unique) from the first concept, why change it into jungle/ forest (it just meh and bored version of buff damage)- for me Invisibility in jungles is imba as well, no need to get more benefit from it.

I like the idea regarding stationing GGs, however this makes the UA way too long. I'm not sure I'd also want to trade out Generals from city connections to the city boosters (also not sure of historical relevance).

The GGs are mainly for citadels (i.e defensive play).

Writing Guilds come much earlier in the game however.

The ideology thing is quite nice I agree, but I'm not sure how easily it van be modded. I'll ask around.

I think we should stick to what we have and go full steam ahead :)

- In history, everytime VietNam had a great general, won the defensive war, it boosted a large production and scientist, the cultural of VietNam is focus on :c5capital: . That why i come in with this ideal. Beside i dont like to use a lot of GG for just Citadel, it wastes plus wrong if we check in history.

- Writing Guilds, i knew. But i saw no problem if we get musican slot, b/c it's theater, right ? Why theater produces writer but musican ?

- Let try !!! Hope it can be implemented, b/c it really nice and unique.

Can you provide a source in regards to your production and science focus when a GG was born?

Water Puppet Theatre is a play, it has stories and characters. We can make it so that there are custom Writing pieces from tradtional WP plays. If we don't give a writing slot to the Vietnamese, the only way we'll get a GW slot is to build the National Epic or Great Library.

I'm a bit worried about the GG spawn, because Nam doesn't do anything in particular to incentivize not using the GGs in combat.

What, d'you think it's all improv or something? Someone has to write the plays for the actors to perform. It's really not rocket science.

That's a much later tech. =]

XML is pretty much finished. I think TPangolin is getting someone to do the lua and additional art.

Oh yes. Let's have some fun with this.

senshidenshi - France (Still Waiting for Art and lua)
Begin the game without Agriculture. Each Great Work of Art boosts Science production by 10%

Capital: Hanoi (Currently the civ I'm waiting on Lua and Art for)

I can get behind the "Citadels provide science" part, but 5 is a bit ridiculous. That means each and every citadel, as well as its defense boost, provides the same yields as Krakatoa.
