Hearts of Iron II German AAR - Written by the Victors

September 26th 1943 - January 1st 1944

While Berlin and Germany celebrated their victory over the Soviets, there was no rest for the forces in the east. Almost immediately after Stalin’s surrender they were reorganised for other theatres. 48 unfortunate infantry divisions had the pleasure of remaining in Russia, guarding the Exile-Line that was beginning construction.

In the west, a new crisis was developing. From Gibraltar, Field Marshall Montgomery was leading Allied forces in an attack into Spain. It was only thanks to several combined German-Spanish counter-attacks that held them from advancing further north until December, when veteran German divisions arrived to secure the region.

The British advance north

While the Axis could not force the Allies back into Gibraltar, at the same time they were able to halt any British assault. It was a dangerous stalemate in Spain.

Elsewhere, things were developing nicely. The Kriegsmarine were returning to power and being constantly reinforced. New battleships were being ready for launch in 1944, including the KMS Ironman, KMS Captain2 and the KMS Nuclear Kid, all Bismarck-class ships. In addition, the transports that were to carry the British invasion forces began construction.

As the new year approached, the Emperor could be forgiven for thinking that the outcome of the war was already decided…

I don't think we have to worry about the USA invading Canada :)

New Year report:

This is the extent of the Axis (green) in Europe. The red shows our enemies.

And here's everyone's favourite military size report! Here is last year's, to compare.

Land Forces: We remain the dominant power, and only the UK represents our enemies in the top five. Just a small increase of garrison troops since last year, we still have to conserve manpower.

Naval Forces: Well, we're still not in there but we're catching up. Currently we have 40 vessels, and are third in terms of carrier strength. The Italians must be giving the UK trouble in the Med.

Airforce: Yeah, we took a hit here. This is my fault, the British captured a province in Spain with most of our naval and tactical squadrons. On the bright side they were obsolete planes, and this year has seen the complete destruction of the RAF

Onward to 1944, chaps! :)

I am scared of the US... as long as they don't view us as a threat we are fine, though. Maybe we can appeal to their maninfest destiny people?

The British advance into spain surely gives gibraltars fall to our forces priority

if we dont act quickly they could gain enough land to encourage a further landing of forces

Killyouall: Given how are relations with both them and the Dutch are improving, and their stalemated war with Japan, I don't think we have much to fear from them.

Captain: I quite agree with you. It'll be my top priority - presumably you want to travel to Spain to oversee the battles?

How can it be stalemated, with Japan having less naval forces than cambodia and US vying for number 1?

you can expect me there, in fact I'll try to pick up a MP 40, give the troops some backup from my jeep

Its nice to hear that we're getting on the USA's good side. Speaking of which, did you check to see how Ireland views us? They'd be of great use in the conquest of Britain...

Killyouall: I believe that Japanese military strength is holding back American forces, or that the game is having trouble with the Pacific front. It's rare that I see anything remotely resembling the historical battles.

Rannos: Darnit! Sorry, I forgot. I've put a little message on my notepad file to remind me next time :)

Captain What is it with you commaders being so desperate to join the battles? If it's not PrinceScamp flying missions, it's you taking out the Brits single-handed

lol yes, the cowardly officers you have, dashing into the safety of enemy fire
