Hearts of Iron II German AAR - Written by the Victors
September 26th 1943 - January 1st 1944
While Berlin and Germany celebrated their victory over the Soviets, there was no rest for the forces in the east. Almost immediately after Stalins surrender they were reorganised for other theatres. 48 unfortunate infantry divisions had the pleasure of remaining in Russia, guarding the Exile-Line that was beginning construction.
In the west, a new crisis was developing. From Gibraltar, Field Marshall Montgomery was leading Allied forces in an attack into Spain. It was only thanks to several combined German-Spanish counter-attacks that held them from advancing further north until December, when veteran German divisions arrived to secure the region.
The British advance north
While the Axis could not force the Allies back into Gibraltar, at the same time they were able to halt any British assault. It was a dangerous stalemate in Spain.
Elsewhere, things were developing nicely. The Kriegsmarine were returning to power and being constantly reinforced. New battleships were being ready for launch in 1944, including the KMS Ironman, KMS Captain2 and the KMS Nuclear Kid, all Bismarck-class ships. In addition, the transports that were to carry the British invasion forces began construction.
