The World Shall Be Ours! A German HOI2:DDA AAR!

What's the plan now? Rush France and England?

What's the plan now? Rush France and England?
Our Northern Borders and our trade with Sweden needs to be secured, then we must deal with France. As always the ultimate aim has to be the defeat of the communists in the USSR.

Update coming soon!:)

Chapter 8 - Fall Weserübung

October 15th 1939 - Aprils 28th 1940

We are disturbed to learn that following a ‘diplomatic’ meeting between the 2 nations on November 15th that Finland has caved into Soviet demands and threats of war by agreeing to hand over territory on their borders. Clearly Finland feels threatened by the Red Army, and we worry that this is a sign of Soviet strength, There will be no war in Finland this winter…

The year ends with continued bombing runs against us. Our interceptors are stretched, we need to build more and reclaim our skies. The French-German border is heavily defended on the French side, we will not be able to achieve a break though there. We must begin to make other plans….perhaps an attack through the low countries?

As we enter 1940, we begin to look towards Scandinavia, and consider our plan of action regarding our Northern Front. With precious metal supplies coming from Sweden, and vital access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea at stake, we need to secure our defences. Reports indicate that the British are developing plans for their own occupation of Norway, and our agents have attained a copy of a document named ‘Plan R 4’ detailing this, though we can not be sure of it’s legitimacy. As such, German troops begin to be allocated for an potential campaign into Norway, which of course means Denmark would need to be secured as well.

On March the 1st, it is decided, an incident off of the Norwegian coast has shown their neutrality to be compromised, we must prepare for invasion.

2 days later this is put into action, Fall Weserübung is launched.

attackdenmarkandnorwayqw7.png

Our first move is to achieve a quick, devastating victory in Denmark. Fortunately their defences and army seems to be near non-existent, and by 20:00 hours on the 8th of March ( a week into the campaign) they officially surrender and Denmark is incorporated into the German Empire.

denmarkoursvp9.png

As you can see, a victorious Panzer Corps is now moving from Denmark to the Western Front

On March 12th, naval landings began to be conducted on the coast of Kristiansand, Norway. 3 infantry divisions and a Panzer division were landed here, whilst a further 3 infantry divisions were later landed at Moi Rann further up the Norwegian coast, after failing to secure a beach head at Narvik. By March 30th Oslo was captured.

On April the 1st the nation the Slovak Republic was informed Germany was taking full military control, and it’s army divisions were being sent to the French border. Wondering is this was an April fools joke, they were assured it was most definitely not.

The following day the nation of Great Britain announced Winston Churchill as their new Prime Minister. A man who has expressed great criticism of Chamberlain’s ‘appeasement’ of us, we now have a clear sign that there will be no diplomatic solution to this war between our nations. It seems we will now have to seriously consider our options in regard to the UK, this Churchill is a formidable opponent and clearly now the British have the appetite for war.

Throughout April the Panzer division assigned to Norway worked it’s way through the country, rapidly capturing land and eventually assisting in the capture of Narvik. Upon this day, April 28th 1940, Norway officially annexed and brought into the German Empire. Fall Weserübung is complete, and has been a great success. Despite apparently planning to do so, the allied forces failed to intervene in Norway, a sure sign of their weakness!

Now it is time to turn our full attention to eliminating our eternal enemy France from this war, and push the British army out of mainland Europe.

I would recommend that we tear through Sweden and Finland and create Scandinavia. Despite the dissent hit (15%) they are valuable as a nation that can almost match Italy in IC.

Well, We can attack Sweden after Norway, but I would be worried about attacking finland because it would lengthen our German-Soviet front, but who knows.

Also where do we stand on Switzerland. I always wondered why Germany never invaded that tiny country, maybe when we launch our invasion of France we can take Switzerland.

Ze Ministry of Zilly Valks does not see ze benefits of invading Svitzerland. Ze mountains and Sviss fortresses vould make require many infantry, infantry that ve could use elsevhere.

Is attacking Sweden really necessary? With Norway and Denmark under our control, we have effectively encircle them except from Finland. And having her stay neutral can serve as a buffer in the event of future hostilities with the commies.

I have no intention of attacking Sweden, we effectively control their trade anyway now we have encircled them with the invasion of Norway (as toda points out) and it's far better to have them mining the iron ore and other metals for us willingly than have it done less effictively under an occupation.

Switzerland is definetly being left alone, along with being very hard to actually capture due to the mountains (as our Minister of Zilly Valks points out) we also ahve alot of bank accounts there that we don't want to jeopardize:mischief:

Plus both nations would require far too many troops, that we need for any potential conflict with the great enemy the USSR!

Depends: I've found that a quick invasion of Sweden doesn't require too many forces, nor does an invasion of Finland and both could prove useful as a puppet. Their technological progression will probably match our own and among tech teams Niels Bohr stands out as a tech team that rivals our own.

An invasion of Sweden is not only unneccessary, but it is folly. What is the point of invading a country, which we already control economically? Also, Finland would make a good potential ally in drive to Uncle Joe and Moscow. No point in extending our fronts. Our target at the moment is France and Great Britain. The East will have to wait its turn like all the rest. We must do away with the threats to the west as soon as we can. What is the situation in Plymouth and Portsmouth? Did the British fortify them?

The thing is that the Finnish are clearly scared of the USSR at the moment, of whom intelligence reports has far more infrantry units than we do. The Finns gave in to the Soviets without even fighting the Winter War, so 'im guessing they don't exactly have many units and would easily be over-run by the USSR in the event of war. On hard difficulty it's going to be difficult matching the Soviets as it is, so I don't want to have to loose units to defending Finland.

I guess so, the BEF seems hardly present at all in France, so their untis have to be somewhere.

As to playing Germany, my current game I tried something which I found fun, but not really challenging, I call it my HRE game, use the accept all cheat to get all ethnically German lands. It's 1945, no war with the allies for the axis, but the Japan led east asian block declared war on the allies (now including america and the netherlands) in 42' all action has pretty much stalled, the Japanese have to many fronts to cover and the allies can't commit enough to any one front without compromising others due to continued suspicions over axis intents.

Overall the Japanese army continues to grow though so they may break through soon.

Chapter 9 - The Fall Of France

April 28th 1940 -June 27th 1940

With the French border so heavily fortified by their all so valuable ‘Maginot Line’, it is clear to us that we will not be able to invade France directly, but will need to out manoeuvre and surprise them. Thus we must attack through the low countries. No problem, they will make fine additions to the Empire anyhow. Fall Gelb is the codename we shall give to our attack on the low countries. We shall push through Belgium (particularly the Ardennes forest) and Holland and invade France from the North, striking for Paris and by-passing the Maginot Line all together. Commander Of The Western Front, germanicus12 was ordered to put his men on full alert and prepared for conflict at any moment. Fieldmarshall of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, sheep21 began to liaise with the Head Of The Heer and Head of the Luftwaffe, IronMan2055 and Kan' Sharuminar, to co-ordinate the attacks and ensure a fast Blitzkrieg would win us victory.

On the 1st of May, 1940 we declare war upon the Belgium and the Netherlands. Luxemburg shall be dealt with at a later date, we don’t want divisions to get held up there.

invasionsp8.png

The Invasion begins!

Initial breakthroughs were rapid and highly effective, Panzer corps smashing through the enemies defences whilst CAS bombers struck from above. Blitzkrieg at it’s finest! Dutch and Belgian troops are no match for our forces! Captain2 and potato kiosk’s Panzer Corps are at the heart of the action.

The Netherlands was dealt with easily, Dutch troops fleeing from our advancing forces like rabbits from a fox! Soon enough only Utrecht remained to be occupied, 2 German infantry divisions moving to do so whilst the Panzers rushed south to engage French forces.

Belgium proved little of a challenge as well, falling rapidly. French and British Expetionary Force (BEF) troops moved to engage us on the Belgian-French borders, and thus the first real signs of resitance began to appear. The BEF seems very small though.

Belgium officially capitulated on the 12th of May, with the Dutch following 4 days later, leaving only the 2 nations overseas territories at war with us. With Fall Gelb a complete success, we can move on to attacking France itself, codename Fall Rot.

may13thws5.png

The state of the invasion, May 13th

After this, things started to become more difficult for us as the French rushed their forces to defend against our onslaught. On May 25th Paris was captured, yet fighting was still fierce, especially in the centre of the French front. However we achieve a big morale as the month ends, a victory over French forces at Strasburg, the Northern part of the Maginot Line! As France moved it’s troops away to the areas of conflict, and we encircled from behind via Metz, German commanders realised that this part of the Maginot Line had been practically abandoned, and the German border troops went on the offensive and achieved victory! The so called impenetrable Maginot Line has been penetrated! Some negative news though, we have had to divert some troops to deal with minor French amphibious landings at Calais and Dunkirk, though these landings shall prove the death of those French troops it is slowing our advance.

Moving away from France for a moment, on June the 2nd we learnt that the Soviet Union is invading Lithuania, a country supposedly in our ‘sphere of influence’. We shall have to watch the Soviets extremely closely….

On June the 10th German commanders informed the council that breakthroughs were now being achieved in the centre of the line, French forces now rapidly falling back, though fighting continues in some areas.

June 14th - news from east, Lithuania and Estonia are now annexed by the Soviets, and on the 16th they begin a campaign into Latvia.

On June the 18th, after intense negotiation and meetings between Supreme Commander Davo and Spanish Leader Franco, and a lot of hard work from German Foreign Minister Churchill 25, Spain agrees to join our alliance, and officially become part of the Axis! Perhaps impressed by German might, and no doubt harbouring expansionist desires of their own, it is nether the less good to have them on side! They immediately begin invasions of Southern France and French North Africa.
Note: Efforts are also being made to bring the Italians into the alliance

No doubt severely de-moralised by the addition of Spanish forces to the Axis war machine, and with vast swathes of their country in enemy hands, on June the 24th France officially surrenders. BEF troops are no where to be seen, no doubt fleeing back to their island! Signing the armistice near Compiègne, a symbolic gesture given the German armistice in 1918 which was signed there, France agrees that we will have all of Northern France and it’s whole Atlantic coast, the Spaniards will have the territory they have occupied to date and the rest shall be left to a French government operating from Vichy under Philippe Pétain. Thus Vichy France is born! 2 days later we returned any occupied territory that was to part of Vichy France was returned.

The new map of France

Sadly though some of the French forces have elected to fight on against us, as the ‘Free French’ under Charles de Gaulle, who vows to keep fighting us. He fled to London as the French government surrendered, narrowly avoiding being shot down by out Luftwaffe, and established his renegade government there. Word has it he even tried to merge France with the UK, how ludicrous!

In the far east, Vichy France was forced to hand over French Indo China to the Japanese who desired it’s resources and strategic military bases. We have no problem with this, though we will be sure to actively bring the Japanese onto our side in the future.

On June 27th, the Maginot Line was dismantled once and for all under orders of the German Supreme Commander, as a signal of Frances defeat. No more will barricades and fortifications stop Germans from entering France!

Victory has been achieved in France, it is time to plan and execute the next stage of our campaign!

With the French defeated, the Uk now stands alone against us, on their island fortress. Still though their Navy is many times the strength of ours, and with production going into preparing for a ground campaign against the Soviets, the Kreigsmarine will have to wait before it gets the ships it needs.

------
Authurs note: I was very impressed Nationalist Spain joined my alliace, the odds were in the low 20's! I believe historiclaly Nationalist Spain actually offered their assistance to the Germans in June 1940 and Hitler turned it down.

I actually belive it was somewhat the opposite, Germany seeking Spanish help and Franco saying no because of Spain's very isolationist government.

Anyway, I thank our soldiers on the ground and our pilots in the skies above for this brilliant display of our Blitzkrieg doctrine.

I know that happened at the beginning and again later on the war, but perhaps I am getting confused:crazyeye:

Had Gibraltar been taken yet?
No....I think that will be rather difficult as well, it's heavily fortified and it appears the Brits plan to launch an offensive into Southern Spain from it.

We must take Gibraltar to split the British Empire. After that we can go after the Soviets, will we be ready in 1941?

So what about Italy, Any news on them joining our alliance

After they re-organize their forces from invading they should be able to take Gibralter, if not send Captain2's PanzerArmee down there, unless the British have inforced it pretty well.
