The World Shall Be Ours! A German HOI2:DDA AAR!

This is bad, the British like to reinforce Gibraltar with ridiculous amount of divisions when Spain join the Axis. With Gibraltar being mountainous and I think having a few forts, the best way is to let them breakout to dilute their force before attempting to annihilate them.

We must take Gibraltar to split the British Empire. After that we can go after the Soviets, will we be ready in 1941?
I believe that we will be ready to assault the USSR in 1941:)

So what about Italy, Any news on them joining our alliance
I have some posistive news for that for the next update!
(I haven't played through the whole update yet though, only a small bit of it! Will play it now!)

After they re-organize their forces from invading they should be able to take Gibralter, if not send Captain2's PanzerArmee down there, unless the British have inforced it pretty well.
It is defended very well. I shall be sending Panzers down there, but I have plans for them first;)

They are indeed attempting to breakout!

Chapter 10 - Dealing with Yugoslavia

June 27th 1940 - August 22nd 1940

We are disturbed as the USSR press’s claims on Bessarabia in Romania, and forces Romanian acceptance on the 27th. I think we may need to bring Romania into our alliance in the future, and receive their assistance to combat the Soviet menace. The Romanian oilfields are very valueable.

The 27th also see’s us finally dealing with Luxemburg, declaring war and beginning an immediate assault. Their troops stand no chance.

On the 29th, we receive word that the USSR now has full control of Latvia.

The following day we learn that the United States government has passed what they name the ‘Land Lease Act’ and also agreed to sell old destroyers to the UK in return for use of their military bases. Essentially they have agreed to send supplies and assistance to the allies in their fight against us. A clear step away from neutrality we feel, we are not pleased and protests shall be made along diplomatic channels. In positive news though, Luxemburg is now fully annexed

Throughout July our forces begin to be redeployed to the Yugoslav and Soviet borders. It is a worry to us that the allies may try to open a front in Europe through Yugoslavia, so plans need to be drawn up to eliminate this threat.

On July the 4th we learn that Japan has expanded it’s influence by effectively turning Siam into it’s puppet state, and 3 days later they finally declare victory over the Communist Chinese, who have fought on since Japans victory in China.

On July 18th and some skilful diplomatic negotiation by foreign minister Churchill 25 enables us to further our relations with Italy and Japan, signing the Tripartite Pact.

July the 20th and it seems that the Free French may have something going for them after all as their New Caledonia and Oceanic colonies declared themselves against our occupation.

After a meeting between Supreme Commander Davo and Italian leader Benito Mussolini in the Italian capital Rome, Italy agreed to officially join our alliance and declare war upon the allies. Meanwhile in Hungary German Foreign Minister Churchill 25 simultaneously negotiated a deal with the Hungarian government, also bring them on side. On July 23rd the leaders of all 3 countries met in Berlin and the deal was done. Italy and Hungary now stand united with us!

As July continues, the British attempt a breakout into southern Spain from Gibraltar, capturing Malaga. To counter act this the 5th Panzer Corp (3 divisions) is ordered to redeploy to Southern Spain from it’s current station in Paris, and some tactical bombers are ordered to redeploy to Spanish air bases and begin bombing British troops in Gibraltar to hamper their organisation.

July 24th and Great Britain has pledged to guarantee the independence of Greece. This means there is now a serious threat of the allies attempting to open a new front in the Balkans, we must deal with this.

On August 1st we declare war upon Yugoslavia. 4 Panzer Corps, 2 Infantry groups, 3 wings of CAS bombers, 1 win of tactical bombers and 4 Slovakian divisions are all committed to the invasion, codename: Directive n. 25. We want a very quick victory there, before the allies and mobilise any troops for the region.

invadeyugoslaviazo4.png

By the 5th it was clear that Panzer units were charging through the country sweeping all resistance aside. By the 15th Belgrade was captured, and the whole Yugoslav army surrendered 3 days later. The campaign is a complete success! Once more Blitzkrieg has showed it’s worth!

Throughout this it should be noted that the British tried and failed with 2 amphibious landings in Spain, one on the North and one in the South. The 5gh Panzer corps has now arrived in Southern Spain, and is currently in the once again Spanish province of Malaga. Additionally the Italians and the British are now engaged in harsh fighting in the North African desert.

The same day as our victory in Yugoslavia, the Italians decided to declare war upon Greece, desiring it for their empire. Whilst Captain2’s 1st Panzer Corp are directed by Head Of The Heer IronMan2055 to Southern Spain to help deal with the British there, the other 3 Panzer Corps in Yugoslavia are ordered to assist the Italians in occupying Greece.

On August 22nd it was decided to establish the puppet nation of Croatia, to help with the occupation of Yugoslavia.

The new map of the region

As such it seems our next target has been chosen for us, and a quick victory must be acheieved in Greece. We must also try and force the British out of Spain and Gibraltar, and examine the situation in North Africa and cosider whetehr we should send troops there.

yes, our great Country is growing.

What about Bulgaria?

How are the Italians doing in Africa?

Good luck with the Soviet Union by the way, I found that having to write about my war helped my efficiency in strategy there. You have 2 years, 3 months and 27 days to beat ;)
They aren't doing great, think province wise they are one down, maybe two (not on my home computer at the sec so can't check right now).

I shall indeed attempt to beat that time limit!:D

How are the Empire's funds looking? A smear campaign against Great Britain would be ideal at this point, as we are entering a trying time for the Americans, who will be apt to try to come to their ally's aid. We must do all that we can to ensure their continued neutrality.

Not good. Whenever we get cash, we need to spend it improving relations with Romania and Bulgaria, to get them into the alliance:(

Chapter 11 - Into Africa!

August 22nd 1940 - December 4th 1940

We have issued Directive No. 18, calling for the capture of Greece and Gibraltar. The aim is to have Greece by the end of September, and Gibraltar by the new year. This should severely damage British and Allied operations in the Mediterranean.

Recon by our bombers on 22nd August indicates there to be 27 Allied units currently stationed in Gibraltar.

On the 25th, we begin our attack on Greek forces, Panzer units engaging them on their borders and breaking through their lines. The plan is too charge ahead with our Panzers, with the Italians securing the rear. All information being received from the front indicates this is going well.

German panzers advancing into Greece

On September the 5th, we decided to intervene in a dispute between the Hungarians and Romanians. As Hungary was already part of the Axis and unlikely to withdraw, it was decided to tactically side with the Romanians, to better gain their support in the hope of soon signing an alliance to bring them formerly into the axis.

viennadictatepq2.png

September 7th and our plan for a quick advance has succeeded and Athens is captured with little resistance. 2 days later the war there is won, with the Italians assuming control over Greece. We have managed to prevent the Allies opening a Balkan front! Following this the 3rd Panzer Corp is ordered to Southern Spain, to assist against the British there.

On the 11th we learn that the Romanians have agreed to hand over Constanta to the Bulgarians.

With the Italians only just holding their own in North Africa, and failing to really penetrate the British defences in Egypt, it is decided to create a dedicated German African Corp, to send to aid the Italians in beating the British back. It shall consist of 2 corps of 3 Mobile Infantry divisions, and 1 corps of 3 Panzer divisions. We land them at Tobruk using Italian transports, the Italian Navy doing a fine job of securing their safe passage. By the 27th they have finished deploying to the area. Operation Sonnenblume is go! The long term aim of this is to capture the Suez canal and be able to push into British held Palestine.

‘’Heiß über Afrikas Boden die Sonne glüht.
Unsere Panzermotoren singen ihr Lied!
Deutsche Panzer im Sonnenbrand,
Stehen zum Kampf gegen England
Es rasseln die Ketten, es dröhnt der Motor,
Panzer rollen in Afrika vor. ‘’

Translation -
‘’ Hot over African ground, the sun is glowing.
Our panzer engines sing their song!
German panzers in the blazing sun,
As they stand in battle against England.
The tracks rattle, the engine roars,
Panzers roll in Africa. ‘’

-Marching Song of the 1st Afrika Korp

North African front, September 27th

Meanwhile the United Kingdom hands over Greenland and Iceland to the United States. It had been ‘safeguarding’ them since the fall of Denmark.

Sadly we received news from Spain that British aa-capabilities in Gibraltar have managed to destroy a German wing of tactical bombers. Lesson learnt I feel.

The African Corp was on October the 8th moved to the front lines, ready to do battle in Egypt. Over the 12th and 13th they finally engage the British and drive them back, capturing Sidi Barani. By the end of October our Panzers also managed to capture Rabia. Our advance into Egypt has begun!

German Panzers In Africa

At a pre-election rally in his home state of New York on November 3rd, President Franklin D. Roosevelt began to speak of the need for the United States to ‘prepare for war’. This is counter to his previous claim that that he would "not send American boys into any foreign wars." He was re-elected 2 days later. Roosevelt received 27 million votes to his opponent Willkie's 22 million, and in the Electoral College, Roosevelt defeated Willkie 449 to 82. We learn that the US military is gearing itself up for a potential conflict. I think the council needs to begin developing plans to counter act any American involvement in this war, should they choose to involve themselves.

Meanwhile in Central Africa Vichy France looses Chad to the Free French. Remind me to send an insulting telegram to Petain. Good news the next day though, as our forign minister Churchill 25 reports back that the Romanians have accepted our invitation to join the Axis and ‘stand together against the Soviet threat’.

As November continues, there is fierce fighting in Egypt as we attempt to break out, doing so for awhile in Niberia but being pushed back before the Italian troops can arrive to fortify the position. As the month draws to an end, an assault is launched on Gibraltar, featuring numerous Spanish troops and 21 German Panzer divisions. Initially this is defeated and the British and their allies, clearly desperate to open up a new front in Europe, attempt to break out by pouring troops into Seville. However they fall for our ploy, as we take advantage of the situation and their under-estimation of our strength to destroy the British units in Seville, before launching a fresh assault on the severely depleted garrison of British and Free French troops in Gibraltar, with Captain 2’s 1st Panzer Corp capturing the fortress city on December the 3rd. The British have been driven out of the Iberian Peninsular!

Following this, the 1st and 3rd panzer corps were ordered to move towards the Russian front. Though there will be no fighting there this winter, the new year will surely bring a whole new dimension to this war…..

while I'm passing by Berlin I'll be sure to grab an Iron Cross :p

Yay for taking Gibraltar! But I wouldn't be doing my job if I don't ask what's the status of the Kriegsmarine as there is no mention of it at all. If Britain is to be taken after the Soviet, it's time to start building up the navy.

So the plan right now is to continue the invasion in Africa, build up our forces in the eastern front against the Soviets, What else?

I think you deserve one, your Panzers have been at the front of several invasions now!

So far the Kriegsmarine has only taken part in transport operations, avoiding meeting the British fleet in Battle. I agree that it needs to be built up, and plan is do so providing things go well against the Soviets. I am thinking a couple of Super Heavy Battleships at least, whilst we develop aircraft technology.

What recommendations do the council have regarding which ships to build/research etc?

Those are the 2 main focuses. I welcome other suggestions:)

Airborne Infantry/transport planes ;)

For taking on the Royal Navy, then aircraft carriers and cruisers are probably the best way to go. Build them up during the Barbarossa years and attempt to pick off British ships in small engagements or with naval bombers.

If we're lucky, the Japanese will start a war against Allied possessions in the Far East. That ought to weaken the Royal Navy presence in the Atlantic and North Sea further. The main battle with the British will, for now, be primarily an air war.

The aim is to bring the Japanese onto our side in the war, especially so that they will go after the Russians in the East and as you say attack allied possesions as well.

Thanbks for your advice on the Kreigsmarine :)

The air war against the British is going ok, for the time being we are mainly focusing on trying to intercept and prevent their bombing runs into France. It woudl be ncie to build some bombers to take the fight to them, but currently we are pourign alot of production into Panzers, as we prepare for any conflict on our Eastern Borders.....

From a gaming point of view, I wouldn't get the Japanese involved in the war against the Soviets, for if they do then the Bitter Peace event requires that they take Vladivostok. Without them you'll need to take more provinces, but at least it's totally your war with no element of frustration if the Japanese AI fail to attack in the east.

Hmmm.....shall need to think about this:)

I've has success before with the Japanese attacking in the East and doing well.

I would think they would be able to take Vlaivostok as they already have a victory in China and I imagine their Russian border would be heavily fortified by now.

We shall ahve to see how it pans out!:D

Carriers as capital ships and light cruisers as screen should be the ideal way to go. But don't forget building U-boats while fighting the commies, I don't want to be the head of U-boat arm with only a few outdated flotillas.
