SGOTM 10 - Maintenance Thread

Sorry, but I'm not sure I have the time to set this up and police it. I am *really* very busy currently.

I didn't realise the policing bit was done manually, I thought it was an automatic check against certain user names...

If you do get around to it, it would be still much appreciated!

I didn't say it was manual, but it all needs setting up!

Can i just note the finish date is 7th December in case some people missed this.

I like the idea of the barb city having a holy city. The only variance in the game will be some teams will get the holy city in their capital and some in their second city unless they wait 6 or so turns. I guess this is something that teams will have to plan around. Adds a bit of spice I guess.

Perhaps someone can help? I know this isn't strictly about this game, but I assume someone else must have run into the same problem trying to setup a test game. It seems, from what others have told me, is that there is an option button for designating the start era, that seems to missing from my screens and thus I can't get a Renaissance start.

I used Worldbuilder and hand edited everything for a test game, but have been told that it will still not be the same as one created using the menus. Does anyone know what if any the differences are?

I have attached screen shots of the game setup screens.
I load the Buffy Mod, select Single Player, then custom game. The screen shots below show what comes up. I do have a new option (from Buffy?) for "Rising Seas"

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I checked the ini file but there doesn't seem to be any option missing or unchecked. I have original Civ4, Warlords, and BTS on disc and BTS is updated to 3.19, as well as Buffy, and everything else works.

I have narrowed the problem down. The ERA control is present on start up, but after loading Buffy 3.19 it is gone. Any ideas?

I believe you just didn't use the "Custom Game" option to start.

Dont know the exact figures but I would guestimate the second city to be 20:1 favorites to get it if not better.

There is a SERIOUS handicap against religions going to capitols if there is another city available!

greatbeyond: The only difference I can see is that you run in window mode, but I would be surprised if that was the reason! Strange. I still get the Era option after loading BUFFY. BTW - don't use the advanced start. Just start the game as usual and you will get the correct units.

Try this work around: create the game without BUFFY, enter WB and edit the map as you wish. Then save the map (as a world builder save) in the world builder editor. Then exit to main meny, load BUFFY, then start a scenario, select the world builder save, and select the appropriate settings.

It's impossible to get the religion in the capital. Roll a random number in (0-9) for each city, add population, and divide by 8 for the capital, round down. With the second city starting at size 2, the capital would have to be at least size 7 for there to be even a theoretic chance of it getting that religion.

Please note that the stating saves will become available in a few hours from now.

Remember:

- PLEASE make sure keep your test game saves well separated from the live game saves.
- No reloading to change a decision or an outcome. If you make a bad move you have to live with it and move on.
- Only the active team member may make moves or changes to the game position.
- Saves must be passed from team member to team member through the submission process.
- No peeking at other team threads.

What about passing saves during turn 1? They can't be uploaded right.

You are right - you can't replace the starting save on the server.

But you don't need to pass saves to each other during the first turn. Screenshots should be all that's needed to show your colleagues what has been revealed by your first unit moves.

Passing turn zero saves around is just going to create temptations to play with them, and make opportunities for mistakes.

It's impossible to get the religion in the capital if you found cities with both Settlers before turn 7. If you really, really want Moscow to be the Holy City, just wait to found that 2nd city. Is that a good idea? :hmm:

I should point out that the BUFFY bug relating to the Members screen will have no effect in this game. As Diplo victory is turned off you cannot build the UN.

Enjoy your games :)

I'm not too worried about the scaling - it will sort itself out once teams have played a few more turns.

OTOH, it does look like there is something wrong with the culture graph - it's showing 0 culture for all teams that have played.

Would you mind re-scaling the graphs for team comparisons. Not a huge big deal, but would be nice.

I assume you want the score scale to start at something above 0? Then, no, I'm not enthusiastic about graphs that start above zero.

I'll check. I'm not sure why/if it would fail for this game, but work for others.

[UPDATE] Fixed. v3.19 changed the way the histogram data is stored.

I have opened a thread in this forum for feedback on your experiences with BUFFY.

Please use that thread to give us your comments on BUFFY, and please note the anti-spoiler warning in the first post.

Well this OBVIOUSLY goes against everything the xOTM's stand for. If it's use can be detected, no worries. If it's use can NOT be detected, issues arise for sure.

Not tried it but I am guessing this would spike a teams score hugely if they went for liberalism. If one team did it most other would follow I guess.

In the interest of fair play I would liked to see this banned. Perhaps a 10 city penalty on the end score for any team choosing to go down this route. We would need to check no team cheekily grabed 2 techs.

We should all be good enough to win games without using tricks like this.
