Random Rants LV: The Joy of Ranting

So, as it happens, the market's rotisserie oven is broken. Which means they were baking the chicken. Which means that they didn't have any rotisserie chicken at all.

Which is problematic given that they offer a free coupon if they don't have rotisserie chicken between 4-7 every day.

Which means I might go in and get free coupon until it is fixed.

it's sad that the two main games that I play are becoming more and more mystical just to even try to play. More accurately, I wanted to maybe play some civ iv bts game of the months (BOTM) again but the steam install seems to have archaic interactions with the hall of fame mod such that the save file doesnt launch properly.

I might have had some probably odd stuff in terms of path directories used for saves/the game, etc, as a while ago I had moved all my civ installations away from the cd versions to just the steam bundle as I thought that would make things simple for the future (new computer? just fire up steam), and those old directories could interfere. But I should have all that unistalled and the fix is some file replacements that I don't know where the files come from (there are some posts that talk about the issues). I can ditch steam of course, but my rant is more that things have to get so complicated.

Long story short, often trying to make things simple and streamlined seems to have the opposite effect :(

EDIT: the civ BE demo won't launch from the "play".....(no error given, just isn't launching)

what did I ever do to technology

I'm old

edit2 hours later: actually, I'm pretty sure I don't have the disks anymore in my possession. They're left elsewhere as I thought no situation would arise that required their potential use.

there was some chatter in the BTS forums recently saying not to let steam update your files as afterwards you could no longer play some multiplayer saves and stuff, I think you just found the stuff bit

specifically posts by da_vinci has the apparent solution, but I tryed some other suggestions but I am frustrated enough that it hampers my productivity towards anything useful (on fixing that or otherwise).

I probably will email the hof gmail thing later; I'm actually just reinstalling everything on steam (which again, isn't really correct thing to do, but at least it'd be a clean slate and any "new" user should experience the exact same thing from there. Any frustrations I email in would hypothetically be helpful to any future frustrated individuals).

What? Complaining about Steam's valuable 'update for you while you aren't looking' feature? How dare you?

Once the Valve inquisition gets you on the rack you will change your tune!

Everyone knows Steam is an infinite compilation of glorious features! By gamers! For gamers! Without which there would hardly even be gamers! Repeat that! Repeat it!

Sorry. Just figured I would get that out of the way since none of the Steam faithful beat me to it.

I prefer Microprose and ID games, myself.

Actually, I'm going to side with Mr. Missouri and declare that I do like some of EA's games.

I also have a GOG account. I learned from them that war never changes.

I'm an Origin guy, that's why. EA RULEZ!

Oh no! !!!

You didn't have to evacuate the building? And stand about outside shivering?

Seems we're living in the same country.

...and I have to fight myself not to comment on the Steam crap....

I lost a set of keys at work today. :wallbash:

Uh...hope you have a liability insurance.
Or that they were not *that* important.
