King of the World #9: Genghis Khan

I'm not sure if getting more cities is your highest priority now (points to the fact you are loosing 47 gold per turn at 40% science). Soon enough however your economy could get pretty strong. I say get Asoka and you to take down Persia.

Guess who are the tech leaders. ISABELLA and Fredy!!!

Spain was moved to the coast.

Don't let Toku become another Hattie;)

I'd say the game plan from here: cottage, cottage, cottage. Considering your land and your powerful allies, you've pretty much won the game. Time to start debating the next leader me thinks:mischief:

Since Toku has no more home island forces it's likely he landed either in the Philippines or on New Guinea, both of which will be worth having around to some extent provided he placed the city correctly, they're excellent for intercontinental trade routes. You might as well chase him down for the kill really, what else do you have to do with your army at the moment anyways?

As far as REXing goes, you have all the land you really need for right now, worker spam your land into shape and grow into a monstrous economy controlling all of East Asia, then start drop cities in South Korea, Manchuria, and in the worthwhile Indies (Generally Borneo, the Philippines, New Guinea, and Sumatra/Java).

Sell your surplus resources, you have tons of them and can easily get more, they aren't doing you much good sitting around doing nothing.

The next leader should be European like the French or the English. Except you would use somewhat peaeful developement instead of a huge rush fest like your Spanish game.

In this round, I decided to get a little impulsive.

Things started simply enough. I finished researching Machinery, and traded it off to Hattie:

And I discovered that Rome had found an alternate route to our lands:

Civ4ScreenShot0001-48.jpg

Curse you, Cyrus. And he refused to join in the fun or even to close his borders. Ah, well. It was just a handful of Chariots and Praetorians. Nothing some basic reinforcements couldn't repel.

I want to thank everyone who told me to step on Tokugawa's throat. His last redoubt was not only in a great location that's always worth founding on this map, but it was lightly defended, to boot:

Civ4ScreenShot0002-46.jpg

It fell easily and came with some useful infrastructure:

Civ4ScreenShot0003-43.jpg

Tokugawa was captured and is currently confined to a 10' x 10' cell in Karakorum. Things haven't really changed for him, to tell you the truth. He doesn't trade with anyone, and he mumbles meaningless threats to anyone who comes to visit.

Mansa Musa showed up and, despite hating my guts, he offered me a juicy trade:

Civ4ScreenShot0004-44.jpg

Good old Mansa.

In 655, Louis Pasteur showed up in Guangzhou:

Civ4ScreenShot0005-43.jpg

He was blathering something about heating up milk or whatever. Somehow, that ended up translating to insights into Philosophy (a no-brainer use of a Great Scientist, in my opinion). I traded it and Machinery to Saladin for Civil Service and Literature (and a few gold to make up the difference).

My battles with Japan and my skirmishes with Rome also netted me a Great General. I quickly attached him to the Warrior guarding Karakorum and turned him into a City Raider:

Civ4ScreenShot0007-45.jpg

You can also see there that I've moved my capitol. I went with Old Sarai. It's nice and central, and it's a production powerhouse.

Those brushfire wars with Rome apparently convinced Hattie to join in the fun. Thus, those Praetorians were suddenly needed on a front closer to Italy. Caesar was willing to pay for peace:

Civ4ScreenShot0008-43.jpg

So I gave it to him.

No sooner did one war end, though, than I got roped into a pair of others:

Civ4ScreenShot0011-39.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0012-34.jpg

How could I say no to two of my bestest friends? And I had a reasonably sized army set up, so I sent an expeditionary force westward through Persia and Russia. Worse came to worst, I'd get some pillaging gold out of it. And gold is at a premium in this game.

Of course, Frederick was the Pope, so if he didn't want to fight me, he didn't have to:

Civ4ScreenShot0013-37.jpg

But that still made Greece easy pickings!

In fact, the turn peace was declared, Germany even came to me with a tech trade:

Civ4ScreenShot0014-34.jpg

Now I need to get a Caravel out there. Oh, and I traded for Hattie's map.

Oh! And we have so many religions floating around in our empire that I thought that a midgame Priest Economy might be fun:

Civ4ScreenShot0016-34.jpg

Or maybe that was just a waste of hammers. Either way.

Anyway, around the turn of the millenium my little band of merry marauders showed up in Greece, to find Sparta woefully underdefended. That Longbow would be trouble, but everything underneath was soft and juicy. I spent a few turns pummeling the walls and sent in my men:

Civ4ScreenShot0019-28.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0023-23.jpg

Of course I'm not going to keep it. I figured I'd gift it to a worthy cause. Rome, Egypt, and Germany are all willing to take it off my hands. Frederick seems the best candidate, since the city is already 15% German. We haven't really seen eye to eye since that declaration of war, though. I think if I gave it to Rome or Egypt it would just culture flip in a few turns. What do you all think I should do?

So here's the map:

Civ4ScreenShot0024-23.jpg

Rome filed a LOT of troops through northern Greece while I besieged Sparta, so I think Hattie may not be long for this world.

Here's the tech screen:

Civ4ScreenShot0025-19.jpg

I REALLY want Guilds to upgrade my Keshiks to Knights, but the siren call of Liberalism has distracted me. Looks like I can always trade for it later.

Annnnd the Diplomacy screen:

Civ4ScreenShot0027-20.jpg

The factions are pretty well laid out, now. So what should I do? Build up for a hit on Asoka and vassalize him? Start chipping away at Cyrus? Continue my mad adventures in Europe? Or stay the course, take Astronomy from Liberalism, and head out for the New World? And what should I do about Sparta?

Oh, and I'm waiting on a Great Person to grab a Golden Age for a civics change. I'm thinkin' Monarchy/Bureaucracy/Caste System/Free Religion.

The save:

You really should have burned Sparta. No sense giving it to an already powerful European civ.

Take Athens too and make Greece a Mongolian colony :D

I'd also like it if you settled that nice grassland in the north instead of making useless wonders.

I'm curious to see what the New World looks like with the changes you made. In the meantime, why not send some prisoners I mean settlers down and make a nice Australian colony?

Take Athens too and make Greece a Mongolian colony :D

Can't 'cause colonies can't be on the same continent, otherwise, if your being sarcastic: :goodjob:

...on the other hand, while the Praets are away, the Keshiks may have themselves a free chance to burn some Roman countryside. Keshik economy, no?

Hey Neal, are you doing traditional city names for this game as in the past? Or are you forgoing it. Because if you are re-naming cities, I think 5000 years is ample time to wait, don't you?:p

Give Sparta to Hattie, she is creative so it won't flip back as easily. However you might already be as friendly as needed to be with her, so maybe you should give it to germany.

Forget guilds and knights, Lib and take MT for Cuirassiers, then onwards with the horde. :hammer:

Vassal Greece.

Return Sparta to Alex

Attack India ( c'mon the guy is spamming cities in Indonesia, and to add , in all the wrong places :p ). To add, the guy is researching astro.... that means he'll be abel to spam cities in the most inconvenient places possible. That has to be stopped

Get a caravel to see how Big Mean Green & Co are doing ( I could bet that Monty already warred with Roosevelt ). I would not discard going to America ( a war of GK vs monty would be quite a show :p )

BTW, that barb city in Northern manchuria could use a visit :hammer:

re: Sparta- Taking the city was something of a lark. That was supposed to just be a combination pillaging/observation patrol. But Sparta was just so poorly defended that, well, my warmonger instincts kicked in. Sadly, the remnants of that army are in no way able to take a second city without help. Without taking a second city, Alexander will not submit to Mongol rule. And I don't think I'll still be in Slavery when it comes out of revolt (the idea of whipping out some replacements was a good one). I think I'll just give it to Hattie. She's my buddy, and who knows? Maybe she can make it a thorn in Alexander's and Frederick's collective side. Let them deal with her bizarre little colony.

re: Australia- I'm starting to pump out Settlers to do just that. I've got a pair of Galleys with a Settler, a Hindu Missionary and two Workers. No defender, so I don't know if Australia is a good idea (lots of Barbarians hiding in the Outback, don't'cha know), but New Zealand should be safe. And then we can set up a proper expeditionary force to take the continent down under.

re: Cities- Yeah, I should probably do that. Next round, your favorite cities will all have a fresh coat of paint!

re: The Next War- I'm kind of torn between Cyrus and Asoka. Asoka's more of a pain in the arse, but I think he's a little better liked, and he'll probably be the tougher nut to crack. Or maybe I should just play nice, grab Astronomy from Liberalism, and send the Keshiks off to crack some Jaguar heads.

If you colonize Australia, you should actually make it a colony. It would probably make the Khmer empire. I've always wanted to make a new civ on the earth maps. I'll also hope to do good on my PoE 1 game.
