Maybe I should play? I have a snow day today, so won't be leaving the house all day probably (if you live in New England, you already know what's going on, but if not, we're getting a NorEaster that's supposedly going to last until sometime during Friday).

Pre-turn – Switch Osaka from Sword->Settler. I want to resettle the gems as soon as possible.

IBT – The Settler/spear by Canton moved onto the mountain to its South. I will follow them, since there is not much land left to explore, anyway. I probably won’t attack, though. The barb by Satsuma also leaves to the SE.

1175 (1) – zzz.

1150 (2) – Kill the barb camp and get 25 gold. Also see borders, but probably just Mongols. Philo due next turn *crosses fingers*.

IBT – Archer attacks warrior outside Nanking, losing 1 hp, with a sword of ours right nearby.

1125 (3) – Philo in…and we get Republic! Start on Lit @ 10% to get some money again (+10 gpt). Nara Barracks->Temple (Wonsan is pushing us in). Sword loses 1hp to Archer. And the border was just the Mongols.

1100 (4) – zzz.

1075 (5) – Attack on Nanking – We’ve only got two Swords to work with. The first Elite takes out the Spear with 2 hp left. The second Sword dies, leaving the remaining spear redlined. Another Sword is coming to help though.

1050 (6) – Osaka Settler->Sword. Tokyo Sword->Sword. Nagoya Sword->Sword. Just moving more swords towards Nanking.

1025 (7) – Korea and Russia both get Poly and Map Making. We can either trade both our techs to one civ, or the same tech to each civ. I trade both to Russia.

1000 (8) – In two turns we’ll have 3 Swords to attack Nanking…maybe a little overkill, but at least we’ll almost certainly get the city. I think we have enough money for now (91 gold), so move research to 80%, @ 0gpt, and Lit in 11. Chinese will speak to us, but won’t even offer peace for peace. That’ll change once we take Nanking…

IBT – Witness the Russians kill a barb west of Osaka. Mongols are now building Statue of Zeus…

975 (9) – 3 swords in position to attack Nanking next turn.

950 (10) – Settle Izumo next to gems in the same place as last time.
2nd Attack on Nanking: Use the Elite Sword to attack, and wins, with 2hp left, destroying Nanking.

Thoughts: I think the variant says we have to continue attacking China until there dead. If that’s true I suggest either a straight run towards Beijing to attack their leader, or attack in the order Xinjian->Shanghai (the town in the fog NW of Beijing)->Beijing. This will take longer, but we may get some cities from this.

If we can make peace, we should do so ASAP (preferably once China is willing to give up a city), and switch to Republic. I figured we shouldn’t switch during a war.

The next person may want to rush the temple in Nara (would cost 1 citizen). The sooner it’s built, the sooner we can put some cultural pressure on Wonsan.

Also, I’ve been exploring up in Mongol territory, and it seems they are moving a lot of troops SW, towards Korea possibly. If they are in a war with them, they may offer a Military Alliance to us, and we’ll have to take it because of the variant.

Rather than waste a peasant doing a rush, since we are Japan / religious, why not just do the rush in Republic? In fact, I don't see a government change noted. Why not? We did not declare, so we should have no WW problems. We'd also have no anarchy.

As far as the rules go, I didn't see anything about government type in the rules. Also, since China declared on us...

interesting point. how about we can do whatever is needed to survive. if at all possible - we should get an alliance against them asap. if not possible - we are fighting for survival, and as such, a ninja will show no mercy = they will be crushed. leaving them a 1cc is ok, as it will spread the word that you simply dont mess with us ninja.

So, we should be trying to get an MA. IIRC, that would require an embassy, and we'd probably have to pay for it. Since I'm frugal, I vote for going it alone, but it's not my call.

Well, the main reason I didn't switch was because I was waiting for those swords to complete...and I admit I forgot we were religious... :blush: We still would have had 2 turns in Anarchy though (from my experience, in Conquests Religious is 2 turns, not no Anarchy). Next person should switch to Republic as soon as possible...again, sorry...

Yes, that's how I interperated it, as well. I just figured we should take this opportunity to take out China. We are going to have to kill them eventually, so why not now?
 
I think that we should take them out. I don't think a MA is necessary because this fight is personal. They raised one of our sacred Ninja training grounds.

First off, no apology necessary - I was just looking for information. Thanks for the bit on 2 turns for religious, as I'm not familiar enough to have noticed that, being more of a PTW player. Also, finishing the swords first is fine, not to mention avoiding the delay of the Pyramids.

I agree, China should go, as long as we're not in survival mode. Do we have capacity to build a settler or two?

i WILL find us a boss, if possible.
i will try to crush them, as slowly as possible - which means a slow tread in IroP's suggested path.
if the chinese ask for peace, i might take it, depending on the situation. i will try to milk it for the chin's have though :)

mongols have a sword, a bow and an axe heading korea's way.
Stasuma barracks > sword.

2-lower Sci to 70% (lit still in 6)

3- move Nagoya's MP to Izumo as i dont like Cathy's attitude, she might get some high aspirations or what not.

4- move. swords are past China Ridge.

5- Tokyo + Nagoya sword > sword. AKIRA and Parish are born.

we have 2 bows (one is redlined) outside Wonsan, with a sword that should arrive next turn.
we should take it and sue for peace, thus ruining their rep.
we have 2 swords with 2 more directly behind at the SHanghai gates. raze and go for mao himself.
AKIRA, Parrish and tarzan are near a lone china bow at Fuji Tip. they could go and take Tsingtao before we kill mao.

whta do you think our GA should look like?
should we finish off they chinese, and start settling like mad?
should we keep on pumping unit for a korean push?

my vote is for mao-cide then go settler pumping, so we get most of his lands. we can take out the koreans later, if they survive the mongol hordes.we still have a civ out there in the fog... and we should also get a couple of galleys out looking.
id hate it we got caught with our kimonos down later on in the game.
 
I fully agree on taking out Mao, and settling the space. We will need the growth. later in order to stay strong, and keep our regicides short, rather than drawn out.

This may also give us an opportunity to sell ROP (& perhaps MA later) to both the Mongols & Koreans, and let them fight it out while we wait for an employer.

We are, but planning on making peace with them within the next few turns.

Do we know if the Koreans and Mongols are at war? To clarify, I never said that Korea and Mongols were at war. I just said it LOOKED like they were, since the Mongols were moving a lot of units south. For all I know they could be sending them towards us.

Focus on the variant. Suggest we establish embassy with Mao and verify Elvis hasn't left the building. If he's still there, we take a SoD straight to the capital and kill him. Then all his cities go poof and the land is open without a protracted campaign.
