I've heard the plot is kinda sorta exactly the same as the first Tobey Maguire movies (kinda hard to avoid I guess). Are these claims valid? Does it matter? It got a glowing recommendation from my sister (not that that necessarily means anything), and Marvel's been pretty damn solid the last few movies, so I'm probably going to end up seeing it sometime this weekend.
It's not really the same. While Oscorp is involved, Osborn himself is little more than an off-screen pressure on Connors to deliver on his regenerative formula. There's no Harry or similar figure. And where in the Raimi Spider-Man films, Mary Jane was little more than a damsel in distress, Gwen Stacy actually does stuff. The new movie also comes with an extra story about Peter's parents that was nowhere in evidence in the earlier films. Other than the whole Uncle Ben dying thing - which kind of has to be in any Spider-Man origin movie - the plots really aren't that similar.

A few of my friends kinda sorta kidnapped me and we went to see the new Spider-Man movie. It was pretty okay - I certainly enjoyed it - but it's awfully early for a reboot. Ended up comparing everything to the Tobey Maguire movies as I was watching it.

I agree. That being said, it was probably better than any of the Maguire movies, so I was still able to enjoy it. Garfield and Stone did a much better job than Maguire and Dunst did.

Ever since getting HBO I've seen waaaay too many movies, so much so I've been too lazy to report them here.

But, I finally bothered to open the thread, so I'm going to mention my three most recent movies, The Road, Fargo, and Master and Commander.

The Road - Just as amazing as the book, even though the book was better

Fargo - Still great at 3 or 4 viewings (I've lost track)

Master and Commander - Another great one

Oh dammit. So the alternate ending is the real one from the book? Stupid syndication and redistributors then.

Just got back from The Amazing Spiderman, and I loved it. The acting was excellent, the visuals were awesome, and that had to have been by far the greatest Stan lee cameo to date.

Spoiler :
On a side note, anyone have any ideas as to who the mystery man in the post-credits scene was? I think it may be someone tied to HYDRA.

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. :cooool:

Jason Statham FTW!

After watching snatch I really want to see this one!

Anyways, Se7en was brutal, not a fun movie to watch.

Everytime I think of snatch my memories always mesh with lock stock. They are very similiar films, same director - but they are quite good.

Watched Great Expectations. (1946) 3/5

Spoiler :
HYDRA is connected exclusively to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Spider-Man's rights are owned by Sony, so that can't be. I think some folks involved with the movie have said it's someone connected to Oscorp, but not Norman himself.

Spoiler :
Some of my boys were speculating about it being the Scorpion or the Vulture or somebody, but whatever. Given the way that they referred to Norman Osborn during the movie itself - on death's door and all - I have a hard time believing that that would be him.

Watched ten minutes of Tinker, Tailor, Soilder, Spy and promptly turned it off when I felt the urge to stab myself in the heart so that I wouldn't ever have to be so bored, again.

Se7en isn't good, independent of whether it's supposed to be fun or brutal or whatever.
