How is Siam now?

Siam is a civ that I always like but never used. Their uniques are strong and versatile and, well, unique. But the fun factor of their UA was crippled by pre-patch Consulates. It was so easy and powerful to the point of being extremely boring: it was just a free bonus for an already OP social policy, no risk or effort involved.

So, with the Consulates nerf of the fall patch, is Siam fun again? And what would be the best way to utilize their UA? I never give enough attention to city-states in my games, it would be fun to try for once.

They're still powerful, but nowhere near the top tier that they used to sit at.

As to whether they're fun or not, I guess you just have to play them. I enjoyed using them pre-nerf, and they require more effort to use now certainly, but if you didn't like them pre-nerf, I see no reason why it would be more fun
