Zulu Ikanda Promotions

The unique Ikanda promotions are given to ALL melee units, not just the Impis.

My questions then is this:

Do you build swords/longswords with the Ikanda promotions or is this just stupid when you can spam Impis instead? What might be an advantage of having a few longswords in the mix? Perhaps they would be better meatshields at the front of your army. Thoughts?

edit to add: And how about an extreme strategy of ONLY building warriors/swords/longswords with the Ikanda promotions? How would that army stack up against an army of spearmen/impis?

Considering that impis upgrade to rifleman and not the lancer path, I don't see much of any reason to build anything but impis. Their ability is just too strong.

yes

spear throwing 3 movement loinclothed men are possibly the best thing in that era.
of course a bunch of longswords have much higher combat strength against impis, but it's at the lower part of the tech tree. but it doesn't feel like you're playing shakalaka without 10 impis on the field.

Impies are good units. Ikandas used to be in civilization 4 and still appeared in civilization's third expansion like it did in 4, it did in 5.
