How Much Have You Changed Since You Joined?

okay then, Obama is a radical right winger. Please. Just because he's not a communist doesn't mean he's on the right. In the U.S. he's on the left. Where else are you going to put him?

By US standards, Obama is not as far left as, say, Eisenhower. That's to say that he isn't "left" at all by American standards. It just can be made to appear that way because the "right" has moved very very far further right in recent years.

I've read him being placed as centre-right, at most.

I'm more to the right, but that's mostly because of Obama, not this place. When Bush was prez, I drifted more to the left. In conclusion, I hate both the right and the left. They are all corrupt. I wish we could get someone competent in congress and president. Someone who actually cares about the welfare of our country, not special interest groups. But I digress.

Why are you drifting around? I mean, just because Obama or Bush fail, does that mean that left wing[sic] resp. right wing politics is inherently wrong? How can a party's failings dissuade you from liking their ideological beliefs, when those failings didn't have anything to do with their ideological beliefs but, like you said it, corruption?

Just curious.

hmm, when you put it that way, perhaps I haven't drifted around. I just didn't want to be associated with the conservatives after the disaster that was the Iraq war. I'd support the conservatives if they actually supported smaller government, but their spending was out of control in the Bush years. Lowering taxes is good, but not when you increase government spending.

I assumed that LucyDuke (who was the first poster to welcome me to CFC!) was obsessed with shoes, shopping and earrings since she was a woman. What a noob!

EDIT: Also, I believe my first post was in a "random thread juxtapositions thread" where I LOL'd at "Why can't I eat off the children's menu?" and "Babe Thread: Princesses".

Generating nonsense for 3 years and counting ;) Some people still take me seriously I think

Okay :) So you're a Conservative but not a Republican?

Most spectacular change award goes to Cheezy the Wiz.

What, seriously? Jesus, wow, hell of a 180 there, mate!

Yep. My Political Compass score was something like (2,6). It was a classic example of "I know nothing about the real world except what my parents tell me, and believe wholeheartedly their filtering of what I learn in school." Needless to say, things changed as my beliefs and world-view were challenged and subsequently shattered, as college, maturing, and the real world have the tendency to do.

^ Then I will one day be a socialist ^

just don't believe everything you read here. No offense, but I have a feeling some posters have never set foot outside a classroom. I'm not saying everyone is that way, just some. It takes real world experience to know how the world works, not a classroom setting. I learn more from the junkie on a street corner, than I learn from some liberal English teacher.

... who does of course have a balanced outlook on life.

Moved quite far to the right and have become more authoritarian though still am more or less anti-authoritarian.

I'm happy without the junkies in my life :p .

Really, my middle-class friends are just as real as the junkie. I don't assume that everyone is middle-class and male just because I go to a single-sex school with an entrance exam. What would be really deluding myself would be to assume I understood the real world just because I knew a junkie. That would be like Marie-Antoinette assuming she understood dairy farming just because she pretended to be a milkmaid. I don't pretend to know how the whole real world works, because I understand that I don't, although I certainly understand parts of it, and I certainly hope you don't pretend to understand the world thoroughly either merely because you may have a less erudite perspective on it.

To answer the OP, despite having only been here for a few months, I've been quickly developing a dislike of socialism and libertarianism alike. I've been drifting away from strong atheism.

Screw the real world.

You realise that the life of a homeless drop-out with a severe psychological condition doesn't really qualify as "the real world" for most people, don't you? "Unpleasant" isn't the same thing as "universally relevant".

I'm probably one of the few people who has shifted to the right, though only because I was so left wing in my younger days.

I am certainly more educated.

I have more real life friends.

I drink alcohol everyday.
