Start Date/Time: Tuesday, March 13th, 1:00 pm CDT
GMT: Tuesday , March 13th, 18:00
Daylight Savings: Please remember, here in the US we have already had our spring daylight savings, so please adjust the time accordingly. For easy reference I'll list my current time as timestamped on this post.

Please use the "title" part of your instruction post to state your office title.

Objective: My intention is to play 15-20 turns, barring something unusual, so please try to have instructions for that length.

Instruction Checklist:
Chieftain - No instructions posted

Elder of ?? - No instructions posted

Citizen Initiative - None

Only elected/appointed officials or citizens posting initiative instructions may post in this thread!

Please use the DP thread in the Government subforum for questions/comments to the DP. Please use the officials' thread for comments to an official

Chieftain Instructions-

Once worker is built, farm the wheat. Once that is completed, farm tile 1sw of city. Once that is done, mine forested hill one ne of city.

I doubt that you'll even get to start mining the hills this turnchat, but I rather be safe than sorry.

Move the scout at your own discretion, continue east and north, as there is no point of trying to make a trip all the way back to our capitol to go west. However, I do suggest that you move the scout out of danger to heal, before that bear gets him.

Continue the research of Bronze Working

Stop Play when Bronze Working is Finished.

Edit: worker instructions changed.

The rest is up to the Elder.

EDIT: Hang on...

Build queue: Worker, Warrior, Settler (mine the forested hill to get it out faster), Warrior, Scout (just incase ours is eaten by the lions...).

Focus on growth (use the best use of food/shields -ok, hammers, I'm oldschool- for the settler).

Build Queue:
  1. Worker
  2. Warrior
  3. Settler
  4. Warrior
  5. Scout (in case current scout is eaten)
Citizens: Focus on growth (best use of food/shields)

Queued Worker: when complete
  1. irrigate wheat
  2. irrigate tile that is 1SW of city
  3. mine forested hill that is 1NE of city
Scout: First move scout out of danger to heal. Move at my discretion, though continue E and N. No point in making a trip back to capitol to go W.

Research: continue BW

Stop when....
  • BW is complete

The above is the current instructions as I read them. Please state if you see any errors. I will get on the chat fairly early in case I have problems logging into the chat.

Question: Am I reading it right in the Elder's queue that the worker is the one that is currently in the queue, not that another worker will be placed in the queue after the current one is finished?

Turn 0, 3360 BC: The scout has +75% defense where he's at, so I believe this is the best place for him. 104 gold, 0 gpt, 100% research, BW 14 turns remaining.
IT- The lion falls victim to our glorious scout. Currently at 0.4 :strength: and 2 xp. Nappy's warrior moves E.

Turn 1, 3320 BC: Promote the scout to Woodsmen I and rests for healing. It'll take three turns to heal.

IT- Bismarck adopts Slavery. Nappy's warrior moves N and Bismarck's scout appears in the NW.

Turn 3, 3240 BC: Zzzz
Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 11 turns, worker complete in 4 turns

Notice there isn't any copper?

Sorry, guys, but I'm new to mIRC so I didn't realize you had to turn logging on. It wouldn't let my copy/paste either so I lost the log. I apologize for that.

Starting Save
Turn 5 save
Turn 13 End save

Here's our current tech tree:

Nice work on the turns, fantastic log! Maybe we should promote you to full-time DP! ;)

As for the chat log, I have the log at home, and CT probably does too, so no problem there. The fine citizens will just have to wait a few hours.

In mIRC, you can right click the chat button to save the log.

Nice work on the turns, fantastic log! Maybe we should promote you to full-time DP! ;)

Thanks! I've played way too many SG's and am still playing them!

In mIRC, you can right click the chat button to save the log.

Sorry about that. When I couldn't get the chat to load from CFC I tried the one suggested in the chat thread. I've never used it before. My apologies everyone. Let's hope the mods can save my loss!

First, I need to ditto DS' comment. Fantastic turn log, Methos!

Second, I happened to be idling around during chat (I was in class at the time, unfortunately). I do, however, have a chat log.

Spoiler Chat Log :

(+x730195) hi all. methos seems to be having trouble
(+DS-othercomp) I posted some instructions
(+x730195) not sure why he waited till now to discover this
(+DS-othercomp) probably thought it would be a breeze
—› join: (Methos) (~dust_em@bbb3ba1.3ae158ff.dhcp.embarqhsd.net)

(+Methos) Hello?
(+Methos) Thanks Dave!!!
(+x730195) hello methos
(+Methos) Sorry about that. I don't use chat.
(+DS-othercomp) hi, glad to see it worked :)
(+Methos) Let me load up the game.
(+Methos) Games loaded and I'm ready to begin.
(+Methos) Strider's here?? Wow, I haven't seen him in this DG
(+DS-othercomp) Strider usually logs everything, don't know if he's actually here
• +DS-othercomp pokes Strider
(+Methos) I've never done a DP before, so I'll go ahead and start unless we're supposed to wait.
(+x730195) you're it big guy. lead on!
(+DS-othercomp) the usual convention is to perform any pre-turn actions and post a new save
(+Methos) ok
(+DS-othercomp) if there are no pre-turn actions, I just skip the extra save
(+DS-othercomp) we try to announce date, turn # within chat, gold, gpt, research, and turns remaining at the end of each turn
(+Methos) I'll skip the extra save than.
(+Methos) ok
(+DS-othercomp) post a save at the end of every 5th turn, before enter. I can't look but others might want to :)
(+Methos) Suggestion was to move scout to a better location to heal, but his current spot grants him +75% defense, so he'll stay where hes at
(+Methos) Turn 11, 3360 BC: The scout has +75% defense where he's at, so I believe this is the best place for him. 100 gold, 0 gpt, 100% research, BW 14 turns remaining
(+Methos) Pressing Enter
(+DS-othercomp) it's not turn 11, each session starts with 0 (the actual turn should be either 14 or 15 btw)
(+Methos) My mistake.
(+DS-othercomp) one last tidbit then I'll get out of the way, echo a SG-style log to the chat -- and thanks for running it, we're all counting on you :D
(+Methos) Scout defeats the lion, has 2 xp and can promote. Currently at 0.4 strength. It'll take six turns to heal. Considering promoting to Woodsmen II for quicker health
(+Methos) Lol! on the SG turnlog. I'm already doing that. Too many SG's under my belt to be able to do it any other way. Haha
(+Methos) Do I have the legal ability to promote?
(+x730195) my guess would be yes in the absence of counter-instrictions
(+x730195) u not i...
(+Methos) Turn 1, 3320 BC:[/b] Promote the scout to Woodsmen I and rests for healing. It'll take three turns to heal.
(+Methos) Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 13 turns, worker complete in 6 turns
(+Methos) sorry, last turn I said 100 gold, that should have been 104 gold.
(+Hyronymus) will setting research to 90% still result in BW done in 13 turns?
(+Methos) No, that adjusts it to 16 turns.
(+Hyronymus) ok
(+Methos) Pressing enter.
(+Methos) Good thing we decided not to go for it, as Hinduism was not founded.
(+Hyronymus) you mean another nation found it?
(+Methos) Yes, it was founded in a distant land
(+Hyronymus) k
(+Methos) Turn 2, 3280 BC: Zzzz
(+Methos) Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 12 turns, worker complete in 5 turns
(+Methos) Turn 2, 3280 BC: Zzzz
(+Methos) Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 12 turns, worker complete in 5 turns
(+Methos) Whoops, sorry about the double
(+Hyronymus) spammer ;)
(+Methos) Lol! Pressing enter
(+Methos) Speak up if there's any other info you all would like to know. This is my first time as a DP
(+Methos) On the IT Bismarck adopted Slavery, so he knows BW
(+DS-othercomp) hinduism first, before buddhism?
(+DS-othercomp) you'd think it must be India, right?
(+Methos) Yep, I was curious if it was missed so I checked F7 and Bud hasn't been founded yet.
(+Methos) It's neither of our allies as I haven't seen the religious switch popup on them.
(+DS-othercomp) they would have had to pop myst
(+Methos) so it obv can't be Bis since he went straight for BW
(+Methos) Turn 3, 3240 BC: Zzzz
(+Methos) Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 11 turns, worker complete in 4 turns
(+Methos) Pressing enter
(+DS-othercomp) gotta go, lunch reservations... have fun!
—› nick: (DS-othercomp) is now known as (DS-lunch)
(+Methos) Nappy's warrior leaves our view. Bismarck's scout is adjacent to our borders. Our scout is fully healed.
(+Methos) Turn 4, 3200 BC: Scout NE-NE
(+Methos) Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 10 turns, worker complete in 3 turns
(+Methos) When the scout moved NE-NE he came upon what looks like our eastern coastline
(+Methos) Pressing enter
(+Methos) That sucks! Scout ends up ending his move adjacent to a lion and out in the clear.
(+Methos) Turn 5, 3160 BC:Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 9 turns, worker complete in 2 turns
(+Methos) Anyone want to take bets on our scouts chances?
(+Methos) I hate to be negative, but I don't believe he's going to make it.
(+Hyronymus) 100% death
(+Methos) Lol!
(+x730195) don't look at the lion and he may not see you
(+Hyronymus) tue, they sometimes move the other direction
(+Hyronymus) *true
(+Methos) Let's hope.
(+Methos) Pressing enter
• +Hyronymus writes an obituary
(+Methos) Woohoo!!!! We won and we didn't take so much as a scratch!!!!
(+Hyronymus) damned, there goes my fortune
(+Hyronymus) :(
(+Methos) mine too, as I bet against him.
(+Hyronymus) did he gain XP?
(+Methos) Yes, but only 1. He's currently at 3/5
(+Hyronymus) k
(+Methos) The scout went NW back into the woods. I forgot we were only at Wood I instead of II, so we lost a point of movement.
(+Methos) Turn 6, 3120 BC: Stats: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 8 turns, worker complete in 1 turns
(+Methos) The worker is almost finished
(+Strider) (+Methos) Strider's here?? Wow, I haven't seen him in this DG
(+Strider) I've been far to busy with college.
(+Methos) No prob, I just didn't recall seeing you posting in the DG2 forum

(+x730195) hiya
(+Methos) hello
(+Shattered) im actually awake for one of these turnchats... woohoo! :)
(+Methos) Scout NE-N and spots a goody hut!
(+Shattered) go for it :)
(+Methos) Turn 7, 3080 BC: 104 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 7 turns, warrior complete in 3 turns
(+Methos) Pressing enter
(+Methos) Popping the hut nets us 50 gold!
(+Shattered) nice
(+Strider) Anyway, I'm heading to the gym.
(+Methos) see ya strider. nice to see ya again
(+Shattered) bye guy
(+Shattered) so im a tad confused, i live in illinois, and the time here is about 1, now I know its central time, doesnt that mean the turnchat has started early?
(+Methos) Turn 8, 3040 BC: 154 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 6 turns, warrior complete in 2 turns
(+x730195) some places don't do daylight time
(+Methos) No, I started a few minutes past 1. I'm currently CDT
(+Methos) let 730195 explain it, he's more knowledgable
(+Strider) Ahh... the turnchats and time..
(+Strider) You know... we use to have someone that held them in the middle of the night.
(+Shattered) its 12:55 on my clock
(+x730195) it's always the middle of the night... somewhere
(+Shattered) true
(+Methos) It's 1:55 here in Missouri
(+Methos) Pressing enter
(+Strider) 1:55 here in Houston, TX ;)
(+Methos) BTW Shattered, Hinduism has been founded, but Buddhism hasn't yet
(+Shattered) damn, i was hoping that the leader would head for a religion, but oh well, we should hit polytheism and then monotheism, organized religion rules and having judiasm (or whatever we decide to call it) would be great for our empire
(+Shattered) it wasnt any contacted countries that have it was it?
(+Shattered) by that i mean france or germant
(+Methos) Turn 9, 3000 BC: 154 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 5 turns, warrior complete in 1 turns, farm complete in four turns
(+Methos) Pressing enter
(+Hyronymus) methos, what does science at 90% result in now for BW ETA

(+Methos) We lose one turn of research. Why though? We currently have 154 gold so we don't need money. We'd only gain 1 gpt by going 90%
(+Hyronymus) sometimes you can gain more :)
(+Shattered) i agree with methos, kind of a pointless gesture
(+Shattered) yes with many cities and markets and such your right
(+Methos) Warrior complete, set to a settler which will take 20 turns.
(+Methos) I see no instructions for the warrior so he defends the city
(+Shattered) understandable
(+Hyronymus) if we spot an animal outside the city borders, can we send the warrior to attack it?
(+Hyronymus) given it's not a bear
(+Shattered) good idea, any exp is good exp :)
(+Methos) It is possible, though recall animals cannot enter our borders.
(+Methos) With the way our queue is currently set up endangering our only warrior probably would not be wise
(+Shattered) what about using our scout? they have a nat 100% vs animals
(+Shattered) course hes probably away from the empire right now
(+Methos) Since my stop point is at the end of BW I'll stop when it is done in 1 turn. Is that okay with everyone?
(+Methos) That's in three or four turns
(+Shattered) yup
(+Hyronymus) I know they won't enter Methos but the border is only 2 tiles atm
(+Methos) Scouts cannot attack
(+Shattered) animals they can i thought
(+Hyronymus) which means not too far to travel for the warrior
(+Shattered) maybe im thinking explorers
(+Shattered) or that i play waaaaay to many mods lol
(+Hyronymus) lol
(+x730195) gotta run.. cya

(+Methos) We've got clams on the east coast and several cows and rice around too

(+Shattered) i forget how crowded the resources are on smaller than huge maps
(+Methos) I take it you only play huge maps?
(+Shattered) yes :)
(+Shattered) im a impulsive warmonger
(+Shattered) an
(+Shattered) especially with mods like Visa and Sevo
(+Methos) The only mod I use is the HoF mod. I used to use several but the HoF mod uses all the ones I like.

(+Shattered) i like content mods, mods that change gameplay and add tons of new things, like UU's, civs, civics, all that noise
(+Methos) A bear moves next to our scout
(+Shattered) im currently playing the Trojans on an huge *tropical* island map, using the ViSa mod
(+Shattered) what terrain is the scout in?
(+Methos) We're currently at +170% defense
(+Methos) There is only one way to go where I can escape the bear and that brings me back where I was and next to the german scout
(+Methos) I'm considering drawing the bear to the german scout
(+Shattered) i was thinking the same thing
(+Shattered) i dont think we could survive a fight even on a hilly forest
(+Shattered) animals dont hunt troops though, they have a random seeded movement pattern
(+Methos) Me neither. We're actually only in jungle. 100% as a scout, 50% from jungle, 20% from Wood I
(+Shattered) yeah move the scout away
(+Shattered) do barbs move before or after comp civs?
(+Methos) I'm not sure? Either way, the bear can't get to us or the germans. There's still a jungle tile between us
(+Shattered) if the bear moves towards us and the germans move into our tile as well, if the barb goes before the german than thats one less scout they have :)
(+Methos) Currently we are sharing the same tile with the germans. Sorry, I didn't make that clear
(+Methos) I ran from the bear onto the german tile
(+Shattered) ahh ok
(+Methos) Turn 12, 2880 BC:Stats: 154 gold; 0 gpt; 100% research; BW due in 2 turns, settler complete in 13 turns, farm complete
(+Shattered) well hopefully the germans move toward the bear
(+Methos) I'm hoping
(+Shattered) is it still in your LOS?
(+Methos) Pressing enter and this will be my last turn
(+Shattered) the bear?
(+Methos) Yes it is
(+Shattered) then the germans will move away
(+Methos) We only have LOS because the coast is on both ours and the bears eastern side.
(+Shattered) ahh ok
(+Shattered) whoah, what caused the settler to jump to 13 turns?
(+Shattered) farm?
(+Shattered) my bad
(+Methos) The worker completed the farm
(+Methos) np
(+Shattered) didnt see that part of the chat :)
(+Shattered) do you have any idea whats up for research next?
(+Methos) That was odd. The bear moved away from us and the germans moved towards the bear. Lions than moved onto the tile where the bear was at.
(+Shattered) lol nifty
(+Methos) No, thats why I'm going to stop on the turn prior to BW finishing. I'd rather stop there than just pick a tech and let them switch it later.
(+Shattered) hopefully the scout gets mauled
(+Shattered) ok cool
(+Methos) Actually, I do need to complete BW so we know where copper is.
(+Methos) Forgot about that. I'll play another turn than.
(+Shattered) i support that claim
(+Shattered) what about slavery?
(+Shattered) any instructions for that?
(+Methos) No instructions on slavery.
(+Shattered) ok
(+Methos) I don't believe its been discussed via an initative yet either.
(+Shattered) i might just write one up then, im not too big on making laws though

(+Shattered) what is the tech list? I'll make a quick poll

(+Shattered) can you give me the tech list?
(+Shattered) so i can type out a poll
(+Methos) Yeah, though I need to finish some stuff first. Wait a second.
(+Shattered) ok can do
(+Methos) There's a lot of techs that are possible, so rather than type them out I'll post a screenshot. BTW, rather than a poll right off the bat, I suggest you, or someone, start a discussion first
(+Shattered) ok sounds good
(+Shattered) where are you posting the SS?
(+Shattered) screen shot

(+Shattered) ok well ill be back in 15 then, i have to get to cleaning some of the house, otherwise my lady will go crazy on me lol
(+Methos) I understand. See you I'm signing out.
(+Shattered) bai
(+Furiey) bye
(+Methos) anybody know how to save the turn log from mirc?
(+Furiey) depends if you have logging enabled or not
(+Methos) I have no idea
(+Furiey) if you have it enabled, select tools>log files from the menu and the file will be saved there.
(+Furiey) if you don't you can copy from the window but you may not get everything
(+Methos) It doesn't appear so, whoops
(+Methos) I tried to copy but it won't let me.
(+Methos) I got it.
(+Methos) I was trying Ctr-A, but you have to do it with the mouse
(+Furiey) I set mine to automatically log in Tools>Options>Logging so I don't forget to start logging
(+Methos) later

It's not if you can outrun the bear, but whether you can outrun the other scout.

 He can play, and he has got humor too!

Excellent work Methos. This is going to be a tricky game without copper, lets hope we have horses.
Nothing is lost yet! Who knows what Iron Working reveals and there is still a chance we discover copper in mined hills after all.

Methos -- I wanted to echo everyone's comments about your excellent turn summary. Thanks for the effort.

Is it possible that we might post/sticky Methos' work somewhere as a good example of how this should be done. That way later DPs would have a good model to work from?

There's plenty of good examples in the demogame archives.

But, yes, this one was a good one. Haven't seen a turnchat this nice in years! :goodjob:

That's what you all get for electing a SG player as a DP. :D

Guess who the original DPs of the early Civ3 Demogames were? SG players!
