[NFP] [1.0.12.9] Black mesh over leaders

I get this black net/mesh effect over the leaders in the leader screen (where you trade, declare war etc). Ever since it's occurred the game has began to crash on some occasions (maybe once per two hours), and there is some very minor flickers on the map. But the most obvious is the leader screen as you can see in the attached image.
This bug happens on every save I load or new game I start.
I've updated my graphics card drivers
I've verified the integrity on steam

Looks like the game is showing you all of the edges and corners of the leaders' models for some reason. What graphics settings are you using, and does this persist if you put the settings down? I was facing issues with leaders' hair disappearing for a while before I decided to just turn down the leader quality down one notch and settling for lower-quality leaders.

I’m using high end graphics, it’s always worked perfectly until the other day when I started getting this ugly effect on the leaders and seeing the occasional flicker on the map.

I turned down the graphics settings and it didn’t fix the issue.
