SGOTM 19 - The Trumpster

This thread gives you and the Staff somewhere to post about non-spoiler issues relating to the game. It is a way of communicating to the rest of the players outside your team, and with the staff, about matters of general interest that affect your team or everyone. You can post about bugs, rule clarifications, problems with the roster etc., but please do not divulge information about your team's progress. Please subscribe to this thread so that you are kept up to date with new information as the game proceeds. If you need to raise specific issues concerning only your team, then please contact me or kcd_swede by PM.

The team lists are at the end of this post.

Thanks for this scenario again go to kcd_swede.

You will play as The Trumpster, otherwise known as Cyrus of the Dutch.

Goodies which ensure a fast pace:
-Bank Error in Your Favor, you start with 200 gold!
-An extra worker and a scout are added to your normal units.
-Some tiles around the start are unfogged to prevent a random direction choice from having too much impact on the competition.
-You and all AI (and barbs) start with all of the Ancient Era technologies EXCEPT those which grant a religion (i.e. Meditation, Polytheism, and Monotheism), so all religions can be founded and none are distributed randomly. Priesthood will NOT be included for the human players.

Your start looks like this:

Your goal: You will found or capture the Corporate HQ of at least one corporation, and monopolize (owned and accessed, or traded for) every instance of its resources on the map before winning the game in any way you choose. Too simple? Ok, there is just ONE other thing you must do before winning the game...
Spoiler :
but that will not be revealed until you submit your save where the technology of Democracy has been learned. (PM Alanh and kcd_swede when you have learned Democracy, and this condition will be revealed).

Game Options:
Ancient Era Start
Normal Speed
Aggressive AI
Unrestricted Leaders
Choose Religion
New Random Seed
No Vassal States
No Goody Huts
No Events
All Victory Conditions Enabled

Map size Standard
6 Opponents
Normal Barbs
Map script: Lakes, low seas, flat (no world wrap).
Difficulty: Immortal

Restrictions: 1) Culture VC cannot use espionage to spread culture to legendary city; 2) You may not have more than +1 diplo modifier for "you have liberated our city" with any civilization remaining alive; and 3) You may not offer nor accept peace or cease fire in any war declared by you until an enemy city is captured or one of your cities is lost by capture, or the war is ended by UN/AP resolution.

Mitigators: Resources that "pop" from a mine in the final 20 turns will not count against you; and teams which fail to secure all the resources will remain eligible for laurels after a 10 turn penalty is applied plus 5 turns for each instance of a resource not accessed.

Note, the usual GOTM restrictions still apply (no replaying, no liberating cities to a civ you are at war with, have fun, etc).

Timetable

The Pre-game Discussion Thread for this game is now open for business.
Links to saves and progress information are available on the SGOTM Progress Page

The team starting saves will be available here on February 7.

The completion deadline will be May 7.. Plan your game, and please avoid a last minute struggle to meet the deadline.
Please be warned, except in the event of cosmic catastrophes. THERE WILL BE NO DEADLINE EXTENSIONS.

Notes
  • Versions
This game will be played in Civilization IV Beyond the Sword, version 3.19, using the standard BUFFY-3.19.003 HoF mod.
If a later BtS patch is released during this game you will NOT be able to use it to play. You will need to complete this game in BtS version 3.19 before updating your copy of BtS, or create and update a separate copy.

Mac players can only join in if they are able to run the Windows software on their system.
  • Rules and Procedures
Please visit the Civ4 SGOTM reference thread to check out the rules and procedures to ensure that you are adequately prepared for this game.

All saved game files uploaded to the server are parsed through software that extracts and archives data about your save, including reload count for each turn set.
  • Spoiler information will absolutely NOT be tolerated in this thread.

What is the best process if someone has a crash?

This is how our team rule read for SGOTM18:
If the game crashes, stop and PM AlanH with the details of what happened. Wait for instructions from AlanH before proceeding.
I think better would be:
If the game crashes, stop and PM AlanH with the details of what happened.
Then replay the turn that crashed from the autosave (interval should be set to one) up to the point of the crash exactly (to best of your recollection) as you had just played.
Then wait for instructions from AlanH before proceeding further.

Do we need to wait if we follow the identical replay rule? Is there other information that should be gathered?

Your proposal contains the risk that teams either become so non-chalant about small mishaps that they forget to report them, and they show up in our system as cheating. Another risk is that you make an incorrect judgement about the severity of the damage, and maybe miss a chance for us to fix your save.

Since there is a short time deadline, I understand the issue is more pressing.

Personally, in an unofficial capacity, I'm willing to advocate the following procedure for the active player in the event of mishaps:

1) Stop and notify BOTH AlanH and kcd_swede.
2) Wait minimum 1 hour for reply from staff.
3) If after 1 hr you have not received instructions from staff, you may complete the turnset following the "exact reproduction of all moves as best as possible" -- with the understanding that you risk being penalized later if staff decides it was more severe.
4) Do not submit or pass on save to next player until you have received notice from the staff that it is ok to do so.

In other words, its ok for the active turnplayer to finish his turnset with the above precautions, but it is not ok for the team to blithely continue on as if nothing has happened, until we say you can.

Note, Alanh is the final arbiter of all rules and enforcer thereof. So from me, consider it a suggestion for rule amendment, rather than an official ruling.

For clarification of the rules... for a simple crash where autosave interval = 1 or manual save within at least 1 turn is available, all you need to do is notify and continue -- repeating all moves as best you can before the crash. No need to wait for response from staff.

For other save-related issues (including crashes where the number of turns needin to be replayed is greater than 1) you should notify and await instructions and a stern scolding if you have failed to set your autosave interval to 1.

Should the lurker thread really be sticky?

I almost clicked on it as I expect the general threads to be there.

Me too, with the difference that i entered it. (the fastest mouse of the West)

Please de-stick :crazyeye: it

Amazing that you guys play so well with all that mis-clicking. :p

I think bookmarking the main SGOTM threads is key this game. You really can't take any risks. Especially if people misclick on a lurker thread.

Thread Subscriptions
As was mentioned, you can subscribe to a thread and then you can simply bookmark your Subscriptions List.

If you haven't bookmarked that link, then go to your Private Messages -> click on the List Subscriptions link on the left side of the screen.

To subscribe to a thread, such as this thread or your team's thread:
- Look at the top of the thread, just above the first message, but below the "Welcome, {Your Username}" text, and look for the "Thread Tools" menu. Open that menu
- Choose the "Subscribe to this Thread" option
- Choose any Notification Type, including "No email notification"
- Click on the Add Subscription button

Regardless of how frequently you get email message notifications or whether you even completely disable email messages, you can visit the Subscriptions List every time that you visit the forums.

If, for any reason, you want to change the level of email spam that you get, repeat the procedure but instead, choose to "Unsubscribe from this Thread," then repeat the procedure for subscribing to this thread, but pick another level of email spam option. You can also play around with the checkboxes on the Subscriptions List page in order to change the subscription settings for each thread listed there.

I don't know where it was when you guys saw it, but its there with the team threads now. I hope you don't have trouble clicking on team threads that are not your own. Avoid the lurker thread in the same way.

No harm done, I hope.

It was initially in the sticked section... I had almost done the same thing as well, assuming it was either the maintenance of pre-game discussion thread, but caugh the title just before clicking.

Not that it is amounst the other threads where we all know we are supposed to be careful, it should be safe. Thanks!

Can you please clarify this:

Creative Co. uses Aluminium but can be founded quite a few techs earlier. Unless anyone on the map researched Industrialism shall we consider CreatConstrCo. monopol completed quest after collecting all stone/marble/iron/copper? Or shall we mandatory wait until aluminium is revealed on the map?

:goodjob:
You need the aluminum, too. Same for other Corps. and late-revealed resources... you cannot monopolize all the resources if you don't even know where and if they exist.

How can you mine a resource you can't see?? I suspect KCD will look at the resource screen to determine you have all the resources. I think the rules are quite clear. If you pick a corp that requires modern resources like aluminium. coal or Uranium you need to research the related tech and have all the resources worked or traded for on the map.

Let us not delude ourself that we can trade for a monopoly. The AI will never sell us their last resource of a kind.
