Hello everybody, I've returned from modding to post another story here, this time following Alder of Denduron in his epic quest against greatly improved AI. I'll be using my Pendragon+K-Mod v 1.01 and will be playing Monarch difficulty on a Big and Small map script.

Special Rules:
I cannot build cottages.
I must remain in Vassalage and Serfdom for the majority of the game, as Alder lives in a territory remniscient of medieval times.
Try not to lose :).

Next post will be the opening portion.

Hope you enjoy

Part 1: The Gambit

Around the year 4000 B.C. a wandering tribe called the Denduronians decided to consolidate their various peoples along a river to prosper forevermore. They elected a leader, called Alder and erected the Bedoowan City in honor of his clan.

Alder dicided the city would flourish only if it had able hands to improve the surrounding lands, so he built a Worker to set forth and begin building farms. Current historians generally agree that at approximately 3600 B.C. the Denduronians became skilled bricklayers and masons, allowing defensive walls to be built around their capital, Bedoowan City.

At one point it is suggested that a band of warriors, closely related to the founders of Bedoowan City, were killed in the wilderness, leaving much land unexplored.

Then, around 3360 B.C. evidence was found that would suggest that the Denduronians created a Mystic religion,, although it never became a major part of Denduronian society, monuments were still erected in various cities for the mystics who taught it.

Then, in cross-examining records of the time, it is possible to be reasonably assured that in 3160 B.C. the Denduronians encountered a scout belonging to Winn Farrow, establishing permanent contact between the two civilizations.

In 2960 B.C. another religion was created, this time focusing on meditation, it was called Buddhism and became a major religion in Bedoowan City.

Shortly thereafter, in 2680 B.C. a heirarchy of priests was created in Bedoowan City, allowing temple to be bbuilt, although none ever were in the city.

Then, circa 2170 B.C. carvings of slavery in Bedoowan society begin to appear, coinciding with the advent of Bronze Working technology that allowed large forests to be cleared in a relatively short amount of time.

Alder, then dissatisfied with only one city, commisioned another group of settlers, now unanimously called "Denduronians" to go and build a new city on the sea, safely nestled among hills and a small forest. They called the settlement Milago Village, as many of those who were sent to found it could trace their lineage back to the hard working Milago farmers.

Around 1570 B.C. Writing was introduced to the empire, and knowledge slowly spread as Libraries were built to house large quantities of books and charts, consolidating information to speed along technological progress.

While these technologies were being discovered and spreading, a temple, called The Oracle, was constructed in Bedoowan City, it is known that at this time many were left in the streets hungry as most of the farmers were sent to work in the mines to facilitate faster construction of the Oracle. This temple did, however bring prosperity to the Denduronians, as it atracted many wise men to it, and their learnings were distilled to discover the interdimensional travel technology of Flumes.

End of Part 1

This is an opening gambit I'm quite fond of with Denduron, getting Masonry to build walls and run an engineer while teching to get Oracle for Flumes. After the Oracle is built, a Great Engineer soon follows and helps build...other wonders. You'll just have to stay tuned to find out what :).

Part 2: The Development

It is known that in 1370 BC, the Denduronians met the Third Earthians, led by Patrick Mac.

Then in approximately 1170 BC, a Great Engineer was born in Bedoowan City, and he devoted his life to designing and building the Pyramids. The same year the Pyramids were completed, the Denduronians discovered how to domesticate animals, leading to increased yield from the cows near Bedoowan City.

Then, it is known that the Denduronians had a major political upheaval, and Alder reorganized the government to allow representation, greatly boosting happiness and research.

Then Alder sent out a party to settle the REAL Milago Village, it developed quite slowly as it was very distant from the core of the empire.

In 675 BC records indicate that Alder met Vo Spader of Cloral and soon thereafter discovered the Alphabet.

Part 3: The Outside World

Circa 425 BC, the Denduronians and Clorans exchanged various information in a trade of sorts, the Denduronians sent their finest scholars to teach the Clorans the art of writing while the Clorans taught the Denduronians about Fishing and the Wheel, making the seas more bountiful and transportation more effiecient.

Then Alder permitted the trade of their Mystic religion ideas to the Third Earthians in exchange for the knowledge of Hunting.

In 400 BC the Denduronians and Clorans met again to swap ideas and Alder once again sent his most learned scholars to teach the Clorans of Alphabets while the Clorans brought their finest smiths and potters to bestow the knowledge of Iron Working and Pottery upon the Denduronian people. The Denduronians would take note of Iron Working in particular, but payed little attention to pottery, which they viewed as a useless consumer product. The farms were doing fine.

Winn Farrow, then realizing that he needed the knowldege of Writing to stay competitive in the modern world, exchanged Sailing for this idea, and soon Denduronian writing became the most widespread in the world.

Then a controversial Engineer was born in Bedoowan City, he designed a wonderful castle which housed the Bedoowan knights, who had grown distant from their subjects, however it turns out the Engineer mistakenly built the castle on an unstable supply of tak, ahich was set off destroying his creation. This caused greater unity in the empire as people worked together to rebuild after such a catastrophe.

Then, Alder made what was at that time considered a deal with the devil as he traded away the secret and powerful Flumes to Winn Farrow in exchange for a silly Monarchy and Archery, his people were quite displeased, but Alder had a plan in mind.

Alder sent out another tribe to found the Novan City near Iron and Gold, providing both production and commerce for an increasingly large and expensive empire.

Then, when the world decided it would be a great time to switch from the BC to AD system of time measurement, Alder derived Currency from the mass confusion, figuring people would be a whole lot happier if they had small green slips of paper to hoard.

Part 5: Expansion

Alder once again resumed trades with the outside nations and in 125 AD it is reported that he gave the Third Earthians plans for making Denduronian money in exchange for some of their gold pieces and their Polytheistic religions.

Then, in a surge of western expansion, the Reunian City was founded on the coast, providing both commerce and access to a source of copper for the growing empire.

Then, Jen Remudi found the Denduronians and made a cautious first contact, already distrustful of Alder because Alder was Buddhist while Jen was Jewish.

Alder once again took advantage of his Currency to gain monotheistic beliefs and a fairly substantial sum of gold from Winn Farrow.

Then, in 250 AD, pioneers bravely settled in the colder southwest regions of Alder's current empire, founding Toom City close to the tundra, scraping by with whatever was available to them.

Alder then, using his knowledge of Monarchy and Writing, created a Feudal system of landlords and serfs, even allowing vassal states and longbowmen.

With these new ideas, Alder transformed his government, replacing slavery with Serfdom, and Barbarism with Vassalage, it is said that farms during this period were much more productive than ever before, and cities could focus less on farming and more on specialists.

Finally, in 475 the Denduronian Empire reached the westernmost point possible and founded the Lowsee Village, providing bounty from the sea, even though a desert lay not too far away.

Part 6: An Improved Government

The Denduronians under Alder were doing well, not magnificently, but their quality of life was pretty good and they had few complaints. This improved even more when in 580 AD, Alder codified their laws and enforced them throughout his empire, encouraging a new era of unprecedented internal peace.

Then, Mathematics were discovered, leading to less waste when boards were cut from trees, and thus increasing production while simultaneously permitting the advanced construction techniques required to build aqueducts, providing both engineers and health.

Alder then tutored Winn Farrow in his law code in exchange for an odd device that proved quite handy for recognizing growing seasons for various crops.

Then, the spomewhat hostile Ibarans requested the Flume technology from Alder in exchange for a sum of gold and Theology. Alder wasn't extremely pleased with this deal, but realized it was necessary to advance his empire.

Flumes began spreading as Patrick Mac gave Alder his valuable secrets of Metal Casting and Aesthetics in exchange for the Flumes, believing it would be the key to his success.

Then Alder further improved his government by instituting Civil Service exams in order to hold public office, greatly increasing the quality of government workers.

Then, around 800 AD, the Denduronians discovered Machinery, allowing large mills to grind flour and do other work, however, it was not widely adapted and was for the most part ignored.

Then, in 880 AD, Alder's world was rocked as he discovered that he had additional, more mischievious neighbors, like the wicked Nevva Winter...

End of Part 6

Sorry for the late discovery, Really enjoyed this so far!

I just had an idea I'd like feedback on, I'm thinking of starting a "delayed DI" of sorts, I'll play half the game and the gods will then try to make me lose (subtely I might add) sort of like a rise and fall of x empire of sorts. Any other ideas?

I don't really like DI's but i will read it :) You may want to advertised this fact in the.....urmmm i don't know where now the central thread is down :(

Part 7: Trade Frenzy!

In 880 AD, Alder made one of the worst trades in his nation's history, he traded not only Flumes, but also Feudalism, for Paper! What were the Denduronians going to do with paper!?! In any case, he also acquired a large map of the earth to sweeten the deal a bit.

Once again the Denduronians traded with Nevva, giving away Metal Casting for Literature and gold, more public outcry ensued, but at least it was more educated.

Alder was still in the trading mood, he gave away his beloved Machinery for Horseback Riding and gold, even though he had no horses (a fact he was not at that time aware of).

Public opinion did improve with a slightly more beneficial trade with Vo Spader, nabbing both Construction and Drama, allowing Colosseums and Theatres to boost happiness empire-wide.

In 1040 Ad, a guild system was imposed thtroughout Denduron, workshops could now flourish and Alder began to realize that he could impose a system of Banking shortly...

...however he first had to found Vladivostok, a strangely named city in the southwest, full of food and a couple beavers, it flourished with the Denduronian farming system.

Only then could Alder impose Banking systems throughout his land, boosting prosperity.

Finally, Alder became a amaster Engineer, able to make towering rock-throwers and pikemen to slay copious quantities of horsemen.

Part 8: Leaping Ahead

To begin, Alder traded away his knowledge of Civil Service to De Gaulle, getting a nice sum of gold and a map of the known world.

Then, Alder gave Vo Spader, a distant and non-threatening leader, Guilds in exchange for Music, a Compass, gold, and a map, a great trade that Alder planned to never use.

Then Technologies were researched (not much to say :()

Subbed.

Spoilers added to conserve space :)

Anyways part 9!

Spoiler :
Part 9: Girding for War

By this point the Denduronians could find no habitable land to expand to so Alder began looking towards his neighbors, since none of them would just give him their land, he decided he needed to take it from them, so he quickly discovered how to rifle musket barrels to improve accuracy and power.

Naturally, Nationalism followed, allowing, but not necessarily creating a draft system.

Alder, without any clarity on his part, researched Military Tradition in hopes that he could use Cavalry to roll over the continent, only to realize that he had no horses.

Then, bored, Alder decided to get a Constitution drafted, even though his people seemed quite happy with their representative government that was already in place, it was simply a guarantee of rights.

He then made a trade to which he was indifferent, as being the state was not something he was entirely supportive of.

And another trade, mostly for gold, but Alder did think that the spyglasses Nevva provided were interesting.

Then Alder researched Chemistry and began moving troops around, he meant to have war and would stop at nothing short of victory.

Once again great update.

Why not to disable Sid's tips -- they contradict the names of new modded techs and would be of little help anyway...

I thought De Gaulle was Winn Farrow ;)
Also how you discover techs while in anarchy?
