Vegas Baby! Yeah!
Just wondering how many CFC members are actually veterans. Does this forum attract old soldiers?

Feel free to post your military branch, rank or job specialty if you like.

What do you think of your time spent in military service?

US Navy, '91-'98 :salute:

U.S. Navy, SECF, Petty officer 3rd class. And i don't think a whole lot positive of my time in considering they med discharged me for an athletic hernia in C school. :/

Yep, been active duty US Army since 1992.

Not a vereran
Never will join the Military for Political Reasons
And certanly never join to enter the meat grinder in Iraq
Will certanly dodge the draft if it is ever reenstated

Not sure where I would vote, so I would vote as other and place in, Conceancious Objector

YNCS(SS), USN (Ret.) '68-'92

Or for the non-cognoscenti:

YN - Yeoman, admin & personnel specialist
CS - Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8), the second highest enlisted rank
(SS) - Qualified in submarines

Say, what rank did you achieve? Did you eventually become a grand admiral or something?

Also, is the navy life anywhere near as exciting as on the TV series Battlestar Galactica.

I attained the somewhat inglorious rank of lieutenant.

And navy life, like the lives of cops, DAs, ER doctors, criminologists, and all the rest, doesn't hold a candle to their television equivalents. Of course if there was a nuclear war or some sort of equivalent to Cylonageddon, then that would probably change very quickly. :)

Edit: answered "Other" to the poll, because I'm a tired veteran, but not a retired one.

Yes, I'm a veteran.

Everyone should go to the Army even for only 1-2 months: the discipline gained is priceless(as some don't understand that in real life and break the laws all time), as well learn to live together with all kinds of "species".
In Greece/Hellas is compulsory to go to the Army, anyway, as it should be.

A lot of the Euro-crowd around here has to contend with compulsory military service. Dunno if it makes 'em "veterans" though?

Air Force for me.

I voted other. You didn't allow an option for people who served in the military, but left before retiring. I served in the US Air Force for 2 enlistments.

You're right, I should have been more clear. The first choice means retired from military service, not necessarily with an actual 'military retirement', pension etc.

Better wording would have been: Yes, I am a veteran and am no longer serving in the military.

I'm 17 and I really hope nothing bad happens where I'll have to enlist. The army recently loosened the qualifications for enlistment and the intensity of boot camp. So it turns out, felons are now allowed to carry automatic rifles! I look foward to not having to worry about sleeping next to an ex-murderers. For awhile, I actually had an admiring view toward enlistment, but now, it is a complete turn off.

I voted too young/won't join but missed the disabled/can't join option. My eyesight is bad enough that I don't meet U.S. military standards even if the draft was restarted and women drafted.

When I was told I was not eligible, it broke my childhood dreams. I will have to wait for that world altering event many years from now to get in.

Nope, and I don't really plan on being a veteran either. There's little access to CFC over in Iraq.

Actually, there is web access all over the place. Surfin' the net helps pass the time.

Sergeant First Class in the Army. Been in since Dec, 1986, so just over 19 years and counting.

I voted other, as I hardly consider my 6 months of duty that is compulsory here in Finland as entitling me to be called a veteran. Here our veterans are of near mythic quality, the sacrifice they made when defending us against the soviets.. Cant compare to that...
