C3C PBEM: "Hermes" - Falklands War scenario (level : experienced)

What a night ! Lost the Cinco de Maya in "Puma" and lost one carrier in this one, for one of the ships you sunk was a carrier !

(very) small revenge taken : rio Iguazu sunk by SeaKing helicopter.
A SBS launches a daring raid on Grytviken and destroys an infantry company while planes keep the marines entranched.
An outpost was destroyed in the West of the Falklands.

Air strikes damaged some ships but failed to sink anything. The navy was somewhat more successfull by sinking 1 submarine.

.

The British have landed and suddenly there was Pucara's all over the skies... many British were wounded but only 1 paratrooper died. British AA was lucky enough to shoot down 1 Pucara...

A Mirage sunk a ship that dared to came too close to the new Argentinian land.

The Argentinian Government strongly protests against the innocent Argentinian civilian forced to leave Great Britain. The rumours spread by the English PM about this individual are lies!

.

New landing.

Weddel is liberated (the conscript garisson was disbanded and they all applied for political asylum in the UK). Go figure ;)

An outpost was destroyed

Attack 1 - British small Naval force (2 ships)
Sunk 2 British ships with Air strikes... lost 2 vital planes to AA...

Attack 2 - Naval force near the landing force
Air strikes sunk 2 Transports and one line ship. No losses.

Attack 3 - Main Land force A
Attacked the massive land force losing 1 Pucara and doing only minor damage.

.

Our Vulcain tried to do some level bombing on the infantry on the hill. One interceptor (probably dagger ?) tried to reach us but we were too high and he crashed !
Other attack failed but artillery killed small garisson.
Sunk aviso (sorry forgot the name) by ship and heli E-SE of Port Stanley while another (Islas Malvinas, what a symbol !) was sunk SW (but quite far) of Grytviken by ships and heli also.

Argghhhh! Daggers are our best fighters... :scared:

1 Argentinian ARA was able to destroy 3 Lynx that were coming behind the main force. The seamen were actually suprised to see they could destroy 3 heli units as it was assumed only 1 attack per turn was allowed.

A single Mirage sunk 1 warship NE of Port Stanley all by himself. However the other fighter pilots were too drunk to take advantage of having British unescorted Transports around... :thumbdown

EDIT: Errr... I meant SE of Port Stanley... ooops... but I hope you knew what I meant...

.

That's because helis are air units and they are destroyed automatically like when you enter a city. Of course that was a real bad surprise. I knew you had ships that north but I thought they were more to the West. Some smart-ass newpaperman wrote some special troops were on board some helis but that they were successfully rescued from the sea by other helis. Who knows ?

Anyway a SS spotted (eventually) the Veinticinco de Mayo that was properly sunk by airplanes (including vulcain). The lack of defensive activity however gave our pilots the feeling planes had deserted the ship. :(

The Aviso (??) that destroyed some civilian transport airplanes was promptly sunk by 42DD Coventry in ship to ship combat. A scouting 21 DD Embuscade, swept the area north, spotted and sunk SS San Luis with no mercy.

Our land troops have conquered a beatiful hill in northern falklands. More important they hold the area with its strategic view and destroyed the radar tower located there.

Weddel re-captured by Marines. The population was overwealmed with joy!

Hermes protector was sunk, but the CV Hermes was able to sink an Argentinian destroyer all by itself. Go figure...

South of Port Stanley, Sir Galahd, Sir Tristam, 1 transport unit and 2 warships (Brilliant and Minerva) were sunk by Air attacks. Unfortunately 3 Argentinian planes were lost in the process, including a valuable Mirage3.

Loulong, you knew I had detected your ships SE of Stanley last turn but you still kept the 'logical path'... I think this was a mistake on your part.

EDIT: I've just realized that I wrote "NE" when I meant "SE" in post #27. Sorry!

.

.
South of Grytviken
ARA Santissima Trindade tried to attack CV Hermes... however a brave English Logistic Assault (unknow name) decided to intercept the Destroyer, being sunk instead of CV Hermes... CV Hermes eludes it's attackers once again...

NE of Main Land Force
Sir Bedivere, Sir Percival and the Penelope Frigate are sunk by air strikes without any losses.

.

ARA Santissima Trinidad sunk by air
Kill inf SE Goose Green on a hill.
Belgrano sunk by a direct hit from our Harriers ! :)
Sunk 2 (???) Bahia Paraiso transports near Wenddel
Ambuscade sunk attacking Drummond (no damage).
Coventry sinks Drummond.
Lose Lynx vs Granville after bombardment.

Looks like things are heating up even though I lost many troops at sea already.

.
SE of Goose Green
A single Puma kills two British Choppers.

South of Port Howard
HMS Spartan is sunk by Aviso Alferez after 2 sucessfull air bombardements.

NE of Port Stanley
Coventry sunk by air.

SE of Port Stanley
CV Illustrious and Argonaut are sunk by two deadly Exocets!
The remaining line ship (Active) is left to be used for target practice of the two new pilots training in the Mirage3 versatile fighters.

There is a new heroe in town: Exocet!

.

Port Stanley
Our brave marine might have died at the hands of an elusive SBS, but we managed to kill the MGL he got while doing it.

South of Goose Green
After losing an outpost in the SE part of the island, we did some reconing and discovered two Seakings... one was killed fairly easy by a Puma, but the other one was protected by British special troops... our marines killed them with no mercy (together with the helis), but we lost 1 Infantry Regiment.

GPS.

Not much action, just destroyed a road built by the British Engineers. I don't know why you built it but it must not be for a good reason so I've destroyed it with Pucaras.

Tried a (stupid) move against your airport and lost 2 Lynx and last Vulcan but killed 1 Roland battery. Also killed one on the hill two tiles W of Port Stanley.

Air bombardments were pretty unsucessfull on same hill. One harrier destroyed 1 interceptor, another one (regular) was shot by a MB... Last one scored one damage...

It is a shame to play one's scenario so poorly :(

Port Stanley (PS)
Strangely enough there was a way I could see your SAS unit, so I must have had one unit with "detect invisibility" nearby... I just don't know which.

Off course the SAS unit was gifted with intensive Art fire... followed by one Armored Car Squadron "visit" which made the unit to be "invisible" forever and ever!

North of PS
Andromeda & Glamoran sunk by Air Attacks. One Pucara lost in the strikes... this was a bad move... I got a little too overconfident there... I need to get my feet on the ground... there are still SBS\SAS around (which are my main worry at the moment).

This kind of Naval&Air scenarios are a lot about luck. A few turns back I did a recon South of P. Stanley and detected your CV just on the "corner" (which I sank with Exocets). But one 1 tile more up or to the left and I'd have missed it... it's a lot about good or bad luck...

But it's also what you said in the beginning... just because you made the scenario doesn't mean you have to be the greatest player of it.

.

It was probably a Puma.

Bad move. I really hoped I could capture your airport this turn. Would have been a huge blow.

Not much. 2 inf damaged by harriers (mountain) and 1 AV7 retreats from an SBS attack.

Not only Puma's can see invisible units, they have Radar too!

One Puma detected HMS conqueror, which was a target for 2 air attacks. It is suspected the Submarine is significantly injured but it has survived the depth charges attack.

Land troops are getting ready for the unavoidable land attack by the strong British forces.
