City Connection

How come these two cities are connected ?

My guess (without seeing more of the map) is that you have Sailing. The city on the left is on a river that eventually reaches the ocean, then the trade route follows the coast to the city on the right.

the left city is on a river reaching the coast, but i do not have sailing yet.

Those two rivers end on the same tile so the game thinks of it as a connection?

then i should have connection to the corn, but i do not as i remember.

My guess is that the tile to the left of the mine has a river in it, and the tile to the left of that also has a river in it, so the game considers those 2 tiles connected. Seems wrong, but what else could it be?

The (bottom) corn tile does not have a river in it, so it is not connected.
