This is a truly amazing mod. It adds so much depth for role-playing!
I do have one gripe though, and that's how a majority of empires -- that is, true empires -- end up being "Republics" and such just because they burn through the Liberty path (since Liberty is for big empires!). This ends up with weird cases such as the Hunnic Republic and Mongolian Republic early-on. I expect these gigantic empires to be ruled with an iron fist, not democracy.
Still, I LOVE this mod. Now, excuse me as I continue to play as the Venetian Confederate States.
But a Republic is not the same thing as a democracy. Roughly speaking: A Democracy is a system where government lies in the hands of the people as opposed to a dictatorship, where the government is under the control of a single individual or group. A Republic is a state led by elected representatives, as opposed to a Monarchy, that is led by a monarch. Those representatives don't have to be from the general populace; they might be elected from a specific group, like a party, nobility, the military, or anything else.
A lot of Republics worldwide are Democracies, that's true. But the UK, for example is a Democracy: it is governed by a prime minister and most of the power lies with the House of Commons, which is elected by the general populace. But the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II (a hereditary monarch), which makes it a Monarchy and not a Republic.
In contrast, the People's Republic of China isn't called a Republic for nothing; it is led by representatives selected by the Communist party from the Communist party. Only members of the party are allowed to vote and they are only allowed to vote for party members, as it is the basic premise of China that the Communist party is the government. That's not exactly democratic, but it is a Republic.
