College Football 2009

Weis has been let go and the next day one of the coaching greats, Bobby Bowden steps down at Florida State. Florida State should remember him well, because they will never again get to experience an era of excellence like the 14 year run of top 5 finishes that he had from '87 to 2000.

At least the farce of BB trailing Joe Pa for all time wins is over. 31 of your wins are Div II wins BB-don't count!

Wetherell also told the Tallahassee newspaper that FSU will play West Virginia in the Jan. 1 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, though no official announcement has been made.

It would be a rematch the 1982 Gator Bowl, when Florida State defeated West Virginia 31-12. West Virginia also was the school where Bowden coached before taking over at FSU.

Un-friggin'-believable. FSU, at 6 - 6, is going to get the ACC's top non-BCS bowl game. As a Miami fan, I'm an utterly pissed. There's no way a 6 - 6 team should be playing on New Years over a 9 - 3 team. No-friggin'-way!

Penn State has played about a hundred games against MAC teams in Paterno's time. Is there really that much of a difference?

Granted the MAC is no powerhouse, but there is a difference between Western Michigan and Hillsdale collage.

Well one its not FSU's presidents decision, its the Gator Bowls who are under contract to take the 3rd place ACC team. FSU is tied for 6th right now. The Gator Bowl president said he would LOVE to have Bowden vs West Virginia BUT.........are 3 ACC teams going to let themselves be jumped?

The Chik-fil-a Bowl has dibs over the Gator now; that switch was made last year or the year before.

Yeah, FSU to the Gator would be a travesty. 6-6 teams don't really deserve bowls as it is, but a New Year's Day bowl...WTF?

6-and-6 teams who count among their wins a FCS team shouldn't go bowling.

Um, well considering Samford played teams like the University of Mexico (Not New Mexico, but actually Mexico), Delta State, Milsaps, and Rhodes College; Whereas at Penn State in Joe Pa's first year on their schedule only Army (who was 8-2 that year) is not currently in one of the Big 6 BCS conferences now. We are talking about teams like California, UCLA, West Virginia, Maryland, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, BC and Syracuse. Not until Bowden got to West Virginia did he face a semi-respectable schedule (even that is pushing it looking at the teams they faced as of 12 teams only 6 came from the big 6).

You are acting as if Samford had FSU's players. It's not an easy schedule if you are recruiting on the same level as them.

At what point to you say that we should draw a line in the sand competition wise? We don't count the over 130 wins that Jim Tressel had at Youngstown St, even though he played teams on the same level recruiting wise. There is good reason for this. At Samford, BB didn't play Division 1 opponents, so the wins shouldn't count.

Good point, wins against non D-I teams DO NOT count towards Bowl eligibility, so FSU only has 5 wins thus is not eligibile!!!!

Up to one FCS win every two years may be counted towards bowl eligibility.

Ah... Yeah, you're right.

But VaTech, iirc, is pretty much going to the Chik-Fil-A Bowl no matter what happens, so that's not such a big deal. What really irks me about all this, is that if GaTech wins, Miami gets bumped from the Gator bowl to probably the Champs Bowl or the Music City Bowl. That's total BS.

Why does FSU get rewarded with a January 1st bowl game for going 6 - 6?
