Connecting roads to foreign Civs, any bonus for caravans?

As the title says, if you build a road to another civ, thus making trade via caravan quicker, does this create any additional income? I figure that in theory would make the trade route much quicker which would make more trade opportunities per cycle. Does anyone know if this is the case?

No.. it just gives the caravan range so they can reach destinations they wouldn't otherwise.
