disband old units?

can units be disbanded? its just that i had some archers kicking about in the 21st century but dont know how to upgrade them or get rid of them.

If you are Germany, all elite units upgrade automatically.

One note: Leo's Workshop appears to be a onetime use. (you build it, it upgrades.. then no more... if you get more advanced tech after you build it, no upgrade)

i was germany and i was still stuck with archers and crap well into the modern age,

Only Elite German units are upgraded.

only elite units get upgraded with germany, so if they don't get promoted twice, they won't get upgraded.

there are no maintenance costs...so...no, there's no way to see them

and I think it is actually the left thumbstick you need to press
