Hey all

Ive always favoured financial leaders, for quick teching, a stronger economy etc.

So ive played far too many games as liz, or Huayna Capac

For a change i picked a different civ and picked roosvelt, partially because i wanted to try an organised civ, and partially because i wanted to try the navy seals in a late war

I have checkpoints (certain dates for COL, CS, Optics etc as i play island games)

And ive found that if anything im hitting those tech points faster with roosvelt than liz!

Of course maps come into play, but i think organised is helping a lot.

I miss the phil trait...but waste a lot less hammers on wonders due to Ind trait (i had marble, and oracle was 10 turns to build on marathon..i had to delay it so i could tech writing!)

So, for the economy, which trait do you prefer? FIN or Org??

Cheers

Fin, as it just suits my play style. Liz just seems to have the best package for the way I play, especially mid game. And unless you get unlucky with a desert start, she seems to be able to handle almost any map conditions.

ahh well seals look cool :)

although i set to ambitious a map..its a shame, i have spread confuciasm to 120 cities i think, but the slowdown from 200 cities means i wil probably abandon

I think maybee organised works better, the bigger the empire.

Financial will generally make you a lot more gold than Organized will save.

FIN is way, way, way stronger. ORG is still a solid trait, and in combination they do make the #2 leader. But it's a no contest between which is individually stronger.

Open a 2 crab coastal start without riverside and people will appreciate ORG in a hurry. Its all map-dependent. Not every start should be cottaged, not every start is coastal.

I prefer Org, the ability to build 3 good buildings (Lighthouse, Courthouse, Factory) is very useful. The lowered maintenance cost help you expand quicker.

I find myself using Cottages less as I am moving up the levels. I only build Cottages in a few of my cities. Financial tends to corner you into building Cottages, which isn't always optimal.

It depends on the level you're playing with. Fin is about equally as strong across difficulty levels. Org is nearly worthless (for saving money) on settler, but saves much more money on higher levels.

I prefer Organized but that is because I almost never use a cottage economy (Generally I use a sort of mixed economy that favors specialists but has a few cottage cities). It also depends on how bloodthirsty you are, the cheaper courthouses really help with expansion, and the faster you get your economy in order the quicker you are to re-expand. However, by the renaissance it is hard to compete with financial, especially if you cottage spam *all your cities. I prefer organized because it helps me more with my personal playstyle, but if you want raw economic strength financial is actually stronger. This doesn't mean ORG is weak however. I'm only a Monarch player debating on trying Emperor, so what I say isn't necessarily true on all difficulty levels. The size of the map matters too, I play huge maps so it's really an unfair comparison. In small maps or maybe even standard what I said earlier about ORG may be less relevant if not completely irrelevant.

EDIT: *Almost all of your cities, you still want production cities right?

Oh and with Island games, I would think that definitely ORG/EXP is the best traits you could have. Org for the quick lighthouse and independence from cottage spams, and EXP for quick harbours (and granaries, but granaries for any map)

yeah ive been playing huge island maps so that may be why roosevelt shined for me.

Roosevelt is quite good when you have a bunch of low production cities. He gets half price on all the expensive buildings which can really get that coastal city with no hills going. The Forge adds to the whips and allows you to run an Engineer specialist so you can get 2 hammers. Quick Lighthouse and Courthouse lets that coastal city become more financially independent quicker.

ORG is meh, take a look at this post, and if you want, also the complete thread.

FIN is way more powerful, as it gives more Commerce, there are no difficulties to run at 100% for endless times after Currency, and ORG gives back way too little, when managing empires effectively.

The argument with the lower difficulty levels doesn't count, because lower difficulties can also be won by Warrior-rushes. That doesn't mean, that Warriors are strong units.

To really pump value out of Org you have to run high-cost civics late game. Financial gives a more immediate and hence  benefit.
