Theres been alot of bashing of this game and alot of defence in the form of its a spinoff.

I'm on the fence till I play it abit more so I can let the hype and my own expections die so I can make an unbiased judgement.

But one thing that came to mind is, whats next?

Will firaxis focus on more simple, pick up and play revolution style gameplay or will they return to something to please us pc players?

Personally I want a new pc civ game but I'd have no problem with them developing two games for both markets, as long as we're not left in the dust.

I think we'll see a Revolution 2, but I don't think it's going to surpass the popularity of the more in-depth style of the PC Games. Civ5 next fall anyone?

Well Colonisation is coming out for the pc market. And don't forget it has only been 3 years or so since Civ IV came out. That isn't that long for civ. And BTS is only out for a bit over a year I think. So I don't think we'll be hearing about CIV V for a few years. I'd say since so far CIV REV has been doing well, there probabley will be a second possibley before CIV V since it would be quicker to make.

They're gonna make colonisation first, but after that, I'm hoping for civ 5. Which will make civ 4 look as ugly, buggy, small, boring, etc. as civ 4 made civ 3 look.

I'm not convinced we're ready for Civ5. There hasn't been a huge jump technologically between what we're running on now and what we were running on for Civ4. What do you want added to Civ5 that will improve on Civ4?

I'd prefer to have Firaxis work on other games. Colonization is a great start. How about a new version of Alpha Centauri (or a SciFi-related game if they can't get the rights to SMAC), or maybe work on updating some other old Microprose IPs like Master of Magic or XCom (both admittedly not Sid Meier designs, but both IPs that Firaxis has access to as part of TakeTwo/2K Games). Or maybe even come up with something entirely new!

Didn't Sid kind of hint somewhere that we'd hear about Civ V later this year? Rev 2 is obviously dependent on how well Rev sells.

When Civ V eventually gets announced, I'd imagine that my first reaction will once again be (incorrect) fear of it getting too simplified. I imagine the civ-specific bonuses from Rev will be introduced.

Yeah, I remember feeling the same thing about civ 4, especially when I heard it would have multiple gamespeeds.

My bet on Civ5 is that they will announce it end of 2008 or early 2009,
game to be out fall 2010 :)

some features I would like:

new road system with different roads:
supply/trade road and economic road (for resorce and improved land bonus)

new combat: unit types acting like Dale's Combat mod (support, front line etc)

limit on number of units, perhaps connected to "soldier" city speacialist

allowing traits to evolve dynamically based on the way a civ nation acts during game

civics affecting society more (population structure of the cities),
more game conccepts on society, like civ4 had religion as new issue

introducing castle as new game concept, sort of limited city/improved fort for war
(to grab land, get some money/industry and act like a good fort)

(I could have more idea but hey...)

CivRev is a fantastic strategy games for portables/consoles.

Previosuly, when a console get a primarily PC oriented strategy game it was either a shoddy port or a generation behind (or both) (ie: PlayStation getting Civ2 when it was years old or SNES getting a port of the original Civ when Civ2 was already in the market.)

I am not saying they are bad games, SNES Civilizations got many people to play their first Civ and was a cult hit in that way, but CivRev was really the first major 4x style game I've played that felt 'right' for the non PC machines. Sure, if you approach it from a Civ4 lense, you can say its Civ4-lite, its nerfed, gimped etc, but at its core, CivRev is its own game. It has simplified mechanics but is establishing its own lineage and that's what so great about it.

I can start a game on the bus home and finish it before I go to bed, perhaps 2-3 hours of play total. That's a pace in games I like! Not that I don't like the longer epic games on the PC, but with longer games come the pitfalls of losing interest and never finishing a game.

I think it'll be a while before Civ V comes out, I don't think PC games have advanced enough since Civ IV to make V a major upgrade over IV. Plus I think the PC series faces a conflict; if they continue to add more and more detail to the game, it'll slow the game down and eventually make it less playable. They need to find a way to keep the game at a quicker pace without sacrificing its depth.

I think there will be a CivRev 2 some where along the line. I would sure love for there to be a sequel. Even with all it's shortcomings, I love CivRev. It's perhaps the most fun I've had with a video game.

I wish Civ Rev were available on the PC, too. I like to play both Civ IV and Civ Rev, depending on my mood.
