Actually it's already too late, the countryside has been pillaged but thanks to the city he tried to capture being on a hill, me being protective and just having discovered Feudalism for Longbows we are at an impasse as he can't capture it but I can't kill his army in the open either, so he's basically only throwing away money for supplies.

Actually the negotiations were successful, it's just that I made a counter offer which bjarkekr will have to accept on his turn rather than me accepting his outrageous initial demand.
