Gold - Question?

I ask why Gold is always use as currency? in all Civilization Games?
Does they change it to paper money hwne some period of time?

Does Gold can be traded? like Silver?

It's a simple abstraction, that anyone can easily understand and relate to, regardles what country he comes from and how many 000-s the piece of paper has, that he must pay for a piece of bread. (Paper money is a abstraction too btw, and just something for the 'people' - countries do not make busines by exchanging pieces of colorful paper)

There is no "Gold-Ressource" in Col that you can not mine, can not put into ships and can not sell to Europe - if that's what you ask. There are Treasures however - i am sure you noticed.
