With #150 being set up, it seems like high time for the #149-spoiler. Having skipped #148 due to little RL-time, I had started this one rathe early. I hope more people are into this game as well.

I decided that I would go for the Lighthouse rather than hopping the ice. This seemed to give me a choice.
I could either start like OCC until after the lighthouse, or I could get a little help.
I chose the latter. I decided to use the size 1 settler trick. After that, I had the settler put a road on the plains to the SW of Moscow and then move to the Furs. There a second city was created.
This helped improve the science output as well as giving more shield production.
Moscow then built a second settler (to create a third city on the Silk) before starting the Lighthouse.

What a big map. A veritable Tour de France (3 weeks) size map.

So first there is the prologue - getting a trireme off and settling elsewhere. I didn't find it easy to decide what to do, and just picked one of the options....

I wasn't sure how quickly it is possible to get to Navigation - I welcome any comments on that - so thought I would do Lighthouse. That would leave more choices for settling more widely, as haleewud notes. As it turned out, Navigation was so long coming that I made journeys to all corners of the world using triremes. I also went for more than one city on the starting continent. So in both these respects my prologue is like haleewud's rather than the Major's.

My trireme set off in 1000BC, somewhat later than the other games so far reporting. I built one other city on the first continent - at (160,86), after felling the trees. The felling sacrificed some speed for structure that may compensate - or very possibly may not, now that I see it is 8-10 turns slower - which is a lot.

Actually, Major Advantage's game is not so much of a contrast as my previous post perhaps suggests. As in the other games there is a second city before the big journey - in this case it's the Walrus - and a plan for Lighthouse as the first wonder.
 
I broke one of my rules and started this one before finishing the previous GOTM. I just could not resist it anymore. I just played till -1000. Will post my log tomorrow.

My approach was different than all of you though most similar to Major's. Like Inkerman I went for two size 1 settlers back to back. These were followed by a trireme which headed north hopping the ice carrying both settlers. Like Major I established a city on the walrus island. This was to get some help with the tech and relieve shield support. The second settler reached island 4 in -1550.

Looking at the -1000 stats, the biggest difference in our 4 games is the footprint.

It seems my progress was slower than yours through the BC-years. I think it would have been a good idea to have another city on the homeland-furs in the beginning (and maybe starve it down when Moskau is growing).

Actually, the wonder I started as LH in Moskau was finished as Maco Polo, one van was contributed from Walrus City. LH was contructed a little later on cont. #4.

Pause: we are losing a lot of money in corruption - not so much production - so it is probably worth moving the Palace to the island with most cities on - perhaps should have done this before. Maikop seems practical choice as we can start building this turn.
