Pokemon and such are not the true representors of the deadly power anime has. Remember, anime was originally made by Asian people for Asian people.

So was Seppuku, but that doesn't make it any more logical.

Try Ghost in the Shell, Berserk and The 12 Kingdoms. Granted, you have to read the Berserk manga to really appreciate it, since the anime takes place somewhere between chapters 3 and 12, even though the manga goes on well beyond that. :/

They can be at times. But they're also pretty funny and very creative. I mean, some of the storylines in bleach are superb!

Ah, probably so, like any other genre. I'm also sure there are plenty of guys who think that people who waste time on some dumb "Civilization" game are quite odd, so it goes both ways.

You might try manga, then. If you enjoyed comics as a kid, they're much the same. The main difference is that the stories tend to have definite starts and endings that follow an actual story arc that has the characters actually change and develop (obviously with some exceptions). They also tend to have the same writer and artist (often the same person doing both) through the whole thing. Unlike Western comics, manga is considered a legitimate art form and manga writers (known as mangaka) are given appropriate respect. The kinds of manga range from stuff for kids (Pokemon, etc) to stuff for adults (Berserk, Ghost in the Shell). The adult stuff (non-porn) tends to have much more complex plots and deal with more mature themes than the stuff for younger kids or even most Western comics, although the latter is slowly becoming a more accepted medium for serious literature. You might compare the more adult-oriented manga to graphic novels like Sin City or comic runs like Sandman.

I will have to look into them one day (I checked them out on wikipedia, Ghost in the Shell looks good). Man, if only I didn't have to sleep. For now I'll catch up to the newest bleach episodes (up to a hundred and something) then I'll probably look into other anime.

Also, I have the bleach manga somewhere on my computer but I haven't really gotten into that yet, which is a shame.

Berserk was excellent, though the ending was kinda abrupt. I'm not sure I understood everything but then again - it's a general fault of anime, more often than not, you get a sudden/unsatisfying ending... Never read the manga though...

Yea, the ending was abrupt because the actual manga went quite a ways beyond it, and is still ongoing.

What is trully sad is that unless you are watching it from asia, or know where to go on the net you won't find anime in its original form.

For the European and even worse american market, the subtitles or god forbid sinhronisations are just horible. And they censor them by cuting out many scenes and editing conversations.

Naruto for example is by the Chunin Exam a blood filled battle anime that can easily compete with a major MMA tournament. But I have watched it in 3 languages (2 versions of english, 1 of german and japanese (fansub)) And the public versions that got it to european/us television were sad.


So unless you can find high quality original japanese versions that are "Fansubed" by people that respect the artform that is anime, you will see many of them weak and simple.

I don't know, the face kind of looks like what he is like. He seems to have a lot of quotes ending with: "...I shall kill him my self."
And it is to small on the model to be noticable.

Not all anime is that bad. I've watched Ghost in the Shell (I think it was SAC 2) and it wasn't that bad. Some of it is, like Last Exile. Before you make an opinion on it, make sure you watch some of the movies by Hayo Miyazaki (I probably mutilated the name) one of the movies, Spirited Away, has won an Oscar or two.

The problem I have with most anime is that they tend to have crappy endings. They seem to either end on a very depressing note, don't really bring closure to all the plot elements, or simply don't actually "end." As a result, I tend to have a very select taste in anime. That being said, I still enjoy quite a few, and have actually come to prefer manga since their stories are often more complete than the animes that come from them, Berserk being an excellent example.
