Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode ).

Possibly, :commerce: is probably the limiting factor for Oracling it, bulbing-wise Great Scientist isn't too hard, thou if good fishing spots nearby Oracling Metalcasting and running a GE to bulb it may work out better :)

Afew spots in fog look treeless for possible more resources too to change the plan :)

*edit*

Just realised with expansive, Forested Plains Deer + Plains Hill City = 9T worker :)

Yep, Forested plains deer is like the best unimproved tile in the game, especially for an expansive leader.

Hunting>AH seems a no-brainer here, then BW. Not sure, but possible idle worker turns. Hunting>BW might be a better play, but would have to do the math.

90% of time I just take first map I get :)

Spoiler :
ha...I think this falls in to the 10% and not because of land. You set us up, Hab!!!

Anyway, despite the questionable characters, this start is oddly not that bad despite how crappy the land looks. I got about 300BC Chos with 1GS bulb of Machinery. Self teched MC and Aesths in very reasonable time - trade Maths for Alpha. Key is get your Hunting>AH>BW>POT and then Writing. No Myst...just chop out Libs and run Scientists.

Still have not switch to slavery. Plenty of forest for choppage meant no civic switch. I did adopt Judaism.

Joao is surprisingly building every wonder in the game, except Oracle which Lincoln build very late - actually tried going for it when I saw it was not built and then Linc finished it next turn. Good thing...cause Joao is my next target.

300BC Chos should mean taking out at least 2AIs with them. The Research focus though meant that I did not build a bunch of Archers, but then I don't really have the funds to upgrade them. I think earlier Chos are possible here with less expansion. Ofc, I had to settle a crap city for iron, but at least it could work a gold. One mistake was settling Shangai 1N instead of 1S. I was thinking keeping the city closer, but it delayed working a second gold. But it is give and take as I ran scientists in the city very early.

Here is a couple of views of my game. I'm about to start mass Cho production.

Spoiler :

tech:

Spoiler :

I've given away some techs for war bribes.

Played till BC 1520

Spoiler :

Just built the Oracle and grabbed MC.

Spoiler :
Reloaded the last few turns  after discovering that whipping wonders gets a 100% malus.
I revolted to slavery for nothing

Spoiler :

3 cities:
- Beijing SIP
- Shanghai between cow/gold/rice
- Guangzhou S/SW blocking Shaka and fighting for a corn tile

2 workers :woohoo:

5 warriors (1 lost to barbs)

Tech order:
- Hunting > AH
- TW > Pottery
- Myst > Med > Priesthood > BW > (Oracle) > MC
- Archery

Plan is to tech Writing/Alpha/Math/IW/Construction/Aesthetics and if I am still alive bulb Machinery & Engineering

I should be able to obtain Masonry, IW and Alpha in exchange of Aesthetics.

Shanghai will be the GP farm (300 GS points = 50 turns once the library is built.)
Guangzhou will work cottages to speed up research
Beijing will pump workers and settlers.

There's a lot of forest in the east. Too bad there's no food.

Feel free to comment on the save

edit:
Spoiler :
A great priest will arrive in Beijing before the second scientist of Shanghai
I'll need to run them scientists in Beijing soonish and pray :please:

I'm thinking of giving this a go though I'm still an aspiring immortal. Given this is terra is it better to treat it as small pangea or look towards the new world for expansion?

Pangaea works in general, thou sometimes you get an AI getting to New World early and making a Colony that can change things enough for it to play different. Can always use the WB saves to play an easier difficulty if you want :)

Spoiler :
is it too late to chop/whip a forge and run an engineer for extra GPPs?

Hmm I was going to play this on Deity but have found out that for some reason i now crash as soon as i select 'Play Scenario'. Thinking its since i reinstall due to BUFFY problems, now i can play BUFFY saves but not scenarios :p Hopefully i get abit of time to play and find out whats wrong, or might just play the IMM save since that should work fine :)

This is not an ideal map for a player moving up in difficulty . It will be a rather rude introduction to the higher level. You'd need a truly elite deity player to beat this on that level 1st try.

Played up to 1000bc. (Immortal normal)
Spoiler :
My third start to be honest.First time round discovered I was researching MC before writing, abandoned c 1300bc. Second time round lost my fourth city to a barb warrior 1500bc. This time round went for archy after hunting>AH and barbs much less problematic so didn't have to keep replacement warriors. Got up to 4 cities with space for a couple of icy crab cities up north. Techwise building libraries and started on MC the slow way.

3000BC with Immortal Save.

Spoiler :
Moved warrior SW to see if settling on the plains hill warrior starts on was an option. Reveals Cows but would be outside BFC so I settled in place. We got silver so Hunting - AH leaves no idle turns as can improve silver as waiting on AH.

After the worker I produced more 3 warriors (pretty sure 5th warrior is when I would of been paying for units) and then hammers in barracks until i grew to 3. Worker improved Deer, Silver and has moved to Sheep and is a turn off finishing it. Worked the silver once it was completed so growing to 3 for settler took longer, but the extra commerce should let me get BW before the settler finishes since I've not seen Horses yet. Scouting isn't the best as I pulled back for spawn busting after finding my first AI culture.

As for AIs, i meet Shaka, Joao (who putting espionage on), Monty, JC and Lincoln in that order :) Below is what I've scouted so far and possible city sites.
Spoiler :

If the desert hill between the sheep and corn is still free, I may settle it as a blocking city for Shaka, thou I'm wary of settling towards him until I have a better idea if another AI is close enough for him to target :) If so not settling there and having him dow on them is likely better.

it's interesting to see that almost all humans settle in almost the exact same places, and dissapointing that the AI can't match that :/

Spoiler for how to win this game:
Spoiler :
It's really simple. Get an early tech lead with either cottages+scientists or the oracle, and bribe everyone to war. Just make sure there aren't any dogpiles, and that if a civ is likely to crush its opponent, then the stronger civ gets backstabbed. Everyone being so warlike made it super easy to start a world war involving every civ but me =p

Im gonna give this a go on immortal, I have won two games so far on Immoratal but i need more experience, but i may need a bit of help to get through this start.
Spoiler :
I dont have much experience with a capital like this, (or at least since ive started playing civ again). So im just looking for advice on what to do with it, specialists or cottage? I Agree with SIP though to get the extra production from the plains hill.
