Jury Duty?

That's why they have a right to counsel and the government has to convince a group of random people they got the right person.
and if they don't, that person is still wronged for essentially being captured
but see this is the problem I have with criminal justice. even if you're innocent you're still punished: money and time gone, name and reputation ruined, friends lost, etc. and this could be done to anyone the government so chooses.

That's all true, but the alternative is to not give due process to the accused. That's even worse.
 
I'll never be selected for a jury, but my dream is to start out as the 1 in an 11 to 1 initial vote, bring the 11 to my side, and then change my vote.
