IIRC it was 42 land tiles for the average size with the previous version of the map (already wrote that code for stats), Amplitude suggest 50 (full size I suppose)

I think below 25 is too small, above 75 is too big.

but we can have exceptions, and the whole Europe could use 25 as an average IMO. 15 should be the low limit for continents territories.

I did some thinking and came up with the following compromise - attached here (apologies for the rough sketch!), combining Gedemon's revised Greece with some of the other suggestions here:

It gives us Illyria/Balkans/Yugoslavia (18 tiles - purple); Greece (16 - blue); Thrace (16 - Salmon); and Romania (20, stealing from Ukraine a bit). I'm not really sure there's a way to carve out Pella/Macedon from Athens/Corinth and Byzantium without making really small or snaky regions, unfortunately.

Yes the idea of Pella/Macedon ,Athens/Corinth and Byzantium works only with a bigger Europe /Landmass . I put a lot of more land there and it works and looks better ( I love the Sea of Marmara now )

Side note: I hope we'll be able to use the game's DB to store territory names with different maps IDs so that any map could use the feature with an additional small mod.

Gedemon, I'm not sure if it's possible but I wonder if there's a way to query the game to report each territory and the number of land tiles in them - it might help give us a sense of what the average size is and how big/small to go with territories. The Low Countries are - by my count - 14 land tiles and I think that's probably the smallest we'd want to go for most cases...

She didn't found anything in Numidia, because nobody called it Numidia either at the time. Numidia is a Latin name of Greek origin, neither of which were common languages in Phoenicia or Numidia-Barbary-Maghreb-Tamazgha, and neither of which Dido would have spoken: and first attested in the second century BCE, closer to Carthage's fall than to its founding.

And frankly, it's no better than Barbary Coast. One comes from nomad (ie, nomadic pastoral herdsmen), the other from barbarian.(ie, stranger, one who speaks a different language). One is linked to the ancient latin name of the local people (Numidae), the other to their modern english name (Berbers).

Tamazgha is a local language name, but it's modern and relatively obscure. Maghreb is a locally used foreign name and well known, but it's Arabic and use geographic directions. Both covers noticeaby larger areas.

Re: Barbary Coast/Numidia, I leaned towards the former, since the territory seemed to be fairly coastal-facing, but Numidia isn't a bad choice either. It's a bit smaller than the territory while Barbary Coast is a bit larger.

Also, Gedemon, if you'd prefer having a more unified naming scheme, I think most of the territories have a Latin version we could use; and for indigenous ones we could potentially approximate it, for example Ngbandi -> Ngbandia.

Technically, Lit(h)uania and Rut(h)enia are Latin, but you could also do Poland -> Polonia, Ukraine -> Ucraina (although, I'd say just do Ruthenia at that point probably).

Latinization would give us Danubius/Danubia/Pannonia, Norvegia, Suecia, Finnia, Carelia, Polonia, Ucraina/Rut(h)enia, Lit(h)uania, Lapponia, and Finmarchia from my previous list

EDIT: Unrelatedly, but for Central America/Chorti, Guatemala would also be a valid name
