The python erros in general sound like if somewhere was a description of an unit/leader/civ/whatever missing, but hell, no idea where.
Game crashes on the first turn could be everything, including missing art. Normally i suggest that you revert your last changes and then go step by step, but that would mean that you remember them.
At this point it would be a good idea to check the civilopedia, if you can see all the things in there, especially units and leaders.
And another question: You say you don#t get any python erros -> are they activated? If no / no idea: Take a look at your normal BtS .ini file and activate them there.
Oh, and important lesson from that point: Always make a backup before you're doing lots of things.
