Well......I'm sick of blue screens, lockups, and crashes!!!!!!

I'm debuging my computer tomorrow and then going to re-build it. Any suggestions for stuff I should do???

I'm going to make sure that everything is unplugged. Then I'm going to preform the debug. Then I'm going to take the system apart and reseat everything. Then recreate the partitions (15 GB for Win98/15 GB for win2k), format and then install (Win98 to C:\ and Win2k to D\) Then drivers and programs.

Does that sound ok???
Should I try something else?

Well thanks for all your help guys!!!!!
One view and that was Fishheads!!!

GGGGGRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Anyway.....he did have a suggestion. He said I should just stay with Win2k and not install Win98. So I polled family and online ICQ buddies. These are the results:

Win 2k - Fishheads, BorderPartol, EyesOfNight, johnny c, Jessica, Mom, (42o)~Atriedis~, Dr. bullfeathers (8)
Win2k and Win98 - Kukla, Komoda, Thunderfall, Nuke2000, Palehorse76 (5)
Win98 - CivWarrior, 0cool (2)

So.....Looks like I'll just install Win2k.

Next question....NTFS partition or FAT32??
Remember, I have a network with Win98 and WinME. And if I go with NTFS how will I get other computers to read it?

I'd really like your opinion Genghisk. And remember....I'm doing it tomorrow at 4 PM EST!!! So opinion by then!!!

If I do NTFS (Which I am) and Win98/ME can't read it, should I leave 1 or 2 GB as FAT 32 so that I can copy stuff from other computers???

COME ON PEOPLE HELP ME!!!!! AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wait......you can't see the message until I submit it.......hummm..... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

NTFS

don't worry abuot that.. you can still set up a network

if you want to send files back and forth you'll have to do it from your win2k machine... but they can still talk to each other

infact they only thing i couldn't do was to get the win98 machine to actually let me access to my win2k machine.. i did actually get in there a couple times.. but then it stoped working.. some security error or something

Dear Mister Corn,

why shouting on me for not replying to you? I told you I was back in France for a wedding and... to get some good stuffs for you <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0> I'd even say it's not nice from you to start that thread when I was out <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/tongue.gif" border=0> I don't like you anymore. Heey, wait but did I like you before <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0><IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>
More seriously, what about considering switching to Linux? I only made it crash once, so far.
And concerning your ntfs problem, may I remind that you can use a ftp client to transfer stuffs. Or even Hotline. I think it works also on NT! But unfortunately I know you won't listen to me because:
1) I'm replying to late and you've surely already slaughtered your PC <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>
2) You never agree with me <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/tongue.gif" border=0>

PS: funny to see Corn replying to himself. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/lol.gif" border=0>

Added: sometimes blue screen may mean technical failures. If you see something like VXD error in VMM32.vxd, it's most likely than one of your ram module is dead. And as my friend always says, installing win98 is one of the best benchmark. No, I'm serious. He means that the install program is an excellent probe to detect hardware failures. If even the Win installation fails, that means you have to change you hardware. If the install succeeds, well, the blue screens means a residents conflict. So you can see that at least, Windows is useful for something! I mean The windows installer. Not the OS. eheheh.

I WAS FUSTRATED!!!!

You have got a point.....I could use ftp. But I'll probably use Netmeeting. Then I can control both computers at the same time and not have to move!!! Yep that's right....I can stay in my confy chair the WHOLE time. Ahhhh.... Of course I have to get up and turn all the programs on.....but I automate that eventually. But thanks for the suggestion....I wouldn't have thought of it myself.

I forgot you were in France sorry.

I do have Corel Linux, Wordperfect for Linux and PhotoPaint for Linux......but I have no experance in Linux. And I'm WAY to reliant on Windows right now. When I get my new computer I'll but Linux on this one......

Anyway.....time to get dressed for work.
