NBA playoffs 2019

And how valuable can somebody really be if he didn't lead the team to a championship? Surely there's somebody on the championship winning team who was more valuable than that

That's not what MVP means. It would be MVT then :p
(Mvps very often are from a team that didn't win the championship; Mvp is about the whole season, not just play-offs or the trophy, and it is also about who was more important in carrying the team).

Besides, let's not act as if the raptors have any players of the worth of either Giannis or The Beard.

Maybe they were talking about a non-American winning. Perhaps those 2 already had citizenship when they won

Steve Nash won, and he's Canadian - Wiki says he never became an American citizen.

And how valuable can somebody really be if he didn't lead the team to a championship?

People have been arguing forever about what "Most Valuable" means, and that's reflected in the winners. For example, Nash probably would not have won the year he did except he was out injured for two weeks and the Suns sucked through a straw while he was out. So that year 'Most Valuable' meant "He took a lottery team and made them a contender".

Kawhi and George, good day to be a Clippers fan lol
